I'm lucky because I work for a large company with appx 200 employees. I've put an advert on the intranet so hopefully will get some orders through that. I also had an order through work for an employee going on maternity leave so quite alot of people saw the actual cake aswell. I have become known as "the nappy cake lady" now! :rotfl:
I did think about dropping some leaflets at other large businesses locally, I figure even if staff aren't interested they may talk about it to other people. We registered a web domain 18 months ago with a view to selling washable nappies but haven't done anything with it yet. I'm keen to get even a basic website running with the cakes on as much easier to advertise if you can put a website address on leaflets or business cards. If anyone else has any other good ideas of how to promote nappy cakes, all ideas very welcome!

I saw an article in a local paper the other day, a lady was holding her very 1st Baby Shower party ........ so I emailed her, informing that I MAKE (lol)nappy cakes.
I received an email from her last night stating that she she was holding another one today, so too late, but would be in contact as she would like to work with me in the future!!! :D
Fingers crossed something comes of it.

Well done on seeing an opportunity and grabbing it ,hope she gets in touch with you soon.Keeping fingers and toes crossed for you:T

Sorry - what am I like - pressed wrong key!!!! Will carry on

As I was saying, I don't drive so I don't know how I will get round that one.

Candyb - could you do the Baby shower Parties yourself. You could ask a Spanish speaking friend to help you (for a small fee!) and she could do the talking while you get an idea of the response. Does that make sense?

Like you said Becs - I think the best way to sell cakes will be in work situations! One Christmas, where I worked, a couple of women set up a stall in the works canteen selling soft toys. I remember, the toys wern't that great but they sold quite a lot. Might be the way forward. Except for me , that is , with no transport!!! LOL'

P.S. Really cheap Cake boards at www.bagandboxman.co.uk Go into "accessories"

Bet most of you know it anyway!! Think I'll go out and come in again!!! LOl
  • Becs - I've found that spreading the word through work has been really good for me. I've sold lots through work and also the nappy cake stall worked a treat too. What you'll find is that most people will love them but haven't necessarily got anyone to buy for yet!! Although the day itself was really successful i've now started having phone calls from people who took my details on the day and are now ready to order.
I've also got a mobile hairdresser and shes asked me to make them for her clients - this has been really good for orders too.
I've found word of mouth works wonders. I don't sell through Ebay now either because I started having emails from one particular website who asked me not to use my ribbons because she uses them!!???!!!! This particular person has also tracked me down through Facebook and is further sending me intimidating emails. I've now had to block all unknown emails. Because of this it has really put me off so I would rather carry on like I am for now through word of mouth.:mad::mad:

Hmmm, not sure I'd have the confidence for that, but sounds like a great idea. I'll have to look into that. Thanks Moonpenny.

Oh my god, she obviously doesnt think that 'great minds think alike'. Well at least by word of mouth, I'd of thought that they'd be for people nearer to home, so hopefully you wouldnt have the hassle of posting them.
You sound like you are doing really well with them, keep up the good work :T

I wonder how many of you are now thinking about hosting your own baby showers, lol .............

Hey, maybe you should report her to ebay, you've got the emails to back it up!
