Shelley, can I ask you what you use for the base when you make the one tier cupcakes? I bought some bibs and scratch mitts today in pink and blue for boss's twins but didn't know what to use on the base.
Thanks
Naomi
Hi Naomi I bought plain white cake boards from Ebay - about £5 for 25. They are cardboard circles and they are fine for the cupcakes. I also use these on the 2 and 3 tier ones now as I've had trouble getting the silver cake boards.Little Miss Chatterbox

Hi Guys
On the ribbon front and crafty bits try www.carnmeal.co.uk £2.59 for 100yds (appx 90 metres) of 2" florists ribbon. They do loads of different ribbons too.
On the courier side for posting.... Good news the 3 tier cake arrived all together (looked a bit on the wonk but not sure it wasn't like that before it went in to be honest! ) certainly looked brilliant and was pleasantly surprised by how well it travelled. Obviously tougher than we think! I like Shelly had used bamboo skewers with the points taken off to secure the layers 2 or 3 each layer. The courier she used was fedex. Have to confess despite her writing on the box this way up both my hubby and I didn't see it and both opened the box upside down! She travelled it on it's side aswell rather than in an upright box and I wouldn't say it was packed that tightly with the polystyrene worms. So all in all I feel much better about sending one now!

Naiomim,
I meant to say the single tier I did at the weekend didn't have a base at all. If your bands are tight enough and you're wrapping around the nappies they should be secure enough without. Have made a 3 tier that has been moved around quite a bit over the past week and that doesn't have a base either.

Hi everyone
Good to hear your cake arrived safely becs. Do you mind me asking how much it cost to send? Do they go on the weight or size?
Found a good site for cake boards / drums. www.ryepack.co.uk A 6 inch cake board is 26p for 1, and works out at 20p each if you buy 50. Vat is not included in prices though.
Also, a nice ribbon site is, www.craftyribbons.com Vat is included on this one!0 -
Have found 2 suppliers for cellophane
Rainbow Florist Supplies £14.10 for 100m (plain)and
Easy Florist Supplies £11.49 for 100m (plain).
Has a few different options for delivery depending on weight and amount spent!Real men never follow instructions; after all they are just the manufacturer's opinion on how to put something together.

Try www.flowerexperts.com for cellophane, they only do plain but I posted about this earlier, I'm sure it's only a couple of pounds a roll! Yep £1.85 plus vat for 30yard roll.

Hi guys - what do all you who make them to sell do about tax etc? I know its just abit of extra income on the side but I'm worried about getting into trouble if I dont do everything above board. Do you have to register as self employed and pay tax etc? How does it work? I'm confusing myself here!MANAGED TO CLEAR A 3K OVERDRAFT IN ONE FRUGAL, SUPER CHARGED MONEY EARNING MONTH!:j
