    Help! Advice needed!

I have been asked by a pensioner relative to make a cake for a friends daughter, but shes only looking to spend approx £10.

What could I put in it?
I will only be charging her cost price

I would be grateful for any help.

what about 5 to 8 nappies, wrapped in muslin or whinding cloth and 2/3 pairs of socks as rose buds for the top? Ribbon around and cello but no cake board. That should cost you less than a fiver.

thanks for the reply, i dont mind it costing upto or just over the £10 mark as im just wanting to recoup my costs, not bothered too much about making any profit.
  • nicky i would make a single tier. using around 18 nappies, wrapped in a nice fluffy blanket. you could then sit a decent sized teddy on the top. and by the time you use some good ribbon and its wrapped in cello it will be perfect. obviously you wont need a cake board anyway cos it will hold itself.
personally i would use the same ribbon around the tier, make a bow for the teddy and finish off with a bow or curled on the cello wrapping..

    dont forget the piccie

Well i have been very busy promoting myself this week. Sent emails off to companys and places that may have craft fairs etc put up posters and buisness cards every where and i bet it will be all for nothing  Because there is already an established lady doing them near me.
When i went to put one of my cards in a shop there was already an advert there. Decided to look on ebay sure enough i found the lady and she is in the same little town as me. She may well be on here hello, I'm not sure it's worth trying to compete her prices are double of mine i only sell a 3 tier for £20 as it isn't a well off area.

Also i have already had replies back saying basicly thanks but no thanks.

One good thing is i have been offered a stall at a craft fair but the stall is £200:eek:   just for one day. If i had sold some already then i would do it but that would be £200 down the drain. Even if i sold any on the day i wouldn't even make any profit it would go towards paying for the stall. I can't believe they can charge that much.

Have you tried schools for fairs, most have them to make some money and a stall would be way cheaper than £200 (more like £10-15).

How about asking if you can go along to a local mother and baby group?

Don't give up if you want to do carry on.

    Good luck :D

The nappy cake I posted was under £10

    Tesco nappies £4.29
    Tesco teddy £2.45
    Tesco Blanket £4
    = £10.74

But I didn't use all of the nappies, ribbon was bits I had lying around so I cheated there.

But primark do cheaper blankets and I have seen bears etc in poundland

I really wouldn't spend £200 on a stall. I did a baby fair yesterday stall costing £40 and only sold 1 £10 basket! Lots of people took my details but no-one seemed to know anyone that was pregnant! I'm going to stick to school fairs from now on and advertise round local businesses!

    Don't give up!
