Thanks Shelley,
Love the hippo cake. I like your bobbly blanket too! My favourite colours are the browns that you use.
I couldn't get any "Christmas toys" for my Christmas themed ones from the supplier I got the others from so got santa and the snowman from m & s. Was only going to get the snowman as wasn't sure on father Christmas but when I saw him I thought he was quite cute. Need to get some red ribbon for his cakes though.0 -
Thanks Becs I love the bobbly blankets and I was so chuffed they had them back in stock in HB this week. Fab :T :T :T :T
I ordered my Hippo from M&S so I might order the Santa and I quite like the Reindeer too. I've got the ribbons ready but I'm looking for some nice christmas bibs to use.Little Miss Chatterbox

They didn't have the reindeer in there today.
I got gorgeous xmas bibs from boots. I got them on the first shopping evening and they were on buy one get one half price. I've got £17 of points now that I need to use for more bibs and muslins I think.0 -
Hi Becs,
I still put things in my cakes even though I swirl the nappies. I put a rolled nappy in the middle to make the circle and then replace it with clothes or toiletries. You can make the “hole” as big as you want – just spread nappies accordingly.
I did one cake with the bottom tier in a swirl, but each nappy lightly folded in half. It looked really neat and more space in the middle. Need to work on the top tier now!!!!0 -
Shelley Love your new cake - like how your spotty ribbons match the bobbly blanket!!!0

Baby safe toys watch out!
Recently I am finding a lot of " baby toys" with embroidered eyes and no long fur on them which are perfect for the cakes, the labelling is saying not suitable for under 36 months, which is silly the toys are real baby toys any child of 36 months wouldnt look at them!
This was first noticed in Morrisons a lovely soft teddy, embroidered eyes and nose, silly bright colours ( which are aimed at babies) I was going to buy it for my grand daughter and my son wouldnt let me because it said not suitable for under 12 months and they go by the label rather than the toy!
Then last week i found the perfect duck, all velour everything embroidered, that on inspection was labelled at 36 months which was really silly.
Just thought I would warn you to check the labels!0 -
Limara I think a lot of it is common sense, both of my children had teddies from birth, my son loves his teddies now as he only has special ones twice a year from the teddy bear workshop, my daughter however loves anything like that and even the ones from in the night garden say not suitable for under 36 months. She has a piglet with the same label on and piglet has to go everywhere and she is just under 18 months old. I think they are fine providing they are checked regularly. We all need to remember that when our parents/grandparents were kids they never used to have these daft rules and regulations on the labels! infact 2 year olds probably used to play with marbles which is now a no go!Raising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0

Becs your new posh nosh cakes look absolutely fantastic! well done you should be proud of yourself!
Shelley another fantastic cake from you! ,... that hippo is a cutey bet he looks just as good once the little child has dropped him in a few puddles and smeared food all over him :rotfl:
We went shopping yesterday and on part of our till reciept we got a voucher for £2 off huggies size 4 or 4+ can't remember when it was valid til (cant look sorry as OH is working away and the reciept is in his wallet!) but tescos also have some reduced instore for £5.28 so its a good saving using the voucher.
My OH's cousins girlfriend was taken into hospital on friday night ... as yet we don't know if she has had the baby or anything ... not sure what the sex is as yet but I am really looking forward to making one up for her once we find out what it isRaising kids is like being held hostage by midget terrorists0 -
Dear All, your baby cakes and roses etc look fantastic, I stumbled on this thread ages ago and wished for a reason to have to make one and now I have a pregnant friend so I'm determined to make her one! I've got a collection of white baby blankets off freecycle so that's a good start.
Rather than using a cake board, do you think a pizza tray is a good idea? I don't think it's much more expensive (if just buying the one) and then is useful in itself too. My boyfriend has also decided it should have cans of beer in it (I keep telling myself I should just be grateful that he is interested and trying to make a contribution!!) so it certainly won't be very conventional. But I want to hide the fact it has a pizza tray and beer so it looks just as pretty as you lovely ones, it can just be a nice surprise for the father when it's opened, because I guess most dads won't get too excited about bottles and nappies!
The bunches of flowers made of baby socks are so cute, but do you think it would look ok with "fake" foliage so that it doesn't need a vase of water and it won't wilt?:heart2: Give blood. :female: Use a mooncup.
But ensure the two are not connected!0
