Well ive been at it again and done another nappy cake;) Took me flipping ages though...couple of questions 1)Does it get easier with practice, struggled a bit getting it to look ok and still not overly impressed.2) Do you roll your nappies in different ways eg open them out fully,or roll from the fold ect iyswim.
This one has 2 pairs socks,1 bib,1 vest (both covering he joins at the back) 2 cot sheets which is why i may have struggled as they were really thick.1 Soft rattle teddy cake topper,1 8oz bottle, baby soap, baby powder,2 t shirts rolled up in top layer,1 hat 1 pair scratch mitts and a brush /comb
    Hope you like it

    Hi ladies

    Your cakes are looking lovely.

Still trying to put together my first 3 tier cake but am having a few problems.
Does anyone know where I can get the wooden dowels from? Looked high and low but can't find any - nearly resorted to using pencils. Also, if anyone has seen any nice "cheap hairbrushes on their travels I would be interested to know!

Made this cake so many times it won't be of any use by the time I have finished. I put the clothes on outside of the cake but was a bit bulky so I put them inside and so it goes on. Still not satisfied!

Keep up the good work ladies!

I got some dowel from homebase or b&q moonpenny - it was about 2m long but you can cut it down easily enough.

    Hi skint_spice

Of course! why didn't I think of that. Only problem - I don't have a car, think I'll have to take a little saw in my handbag on my next shopping trip! LOL.

I find that when you take the nappy from the packet then start to roll but not too tightly as they don't keep their shape. You can get a nice loose roll on the nappy which leaves you also with more nappys for another tier. It does get easier, and also the more you do the more ideas you seem to come up with and also you seem to make them look more and more prettier with simple things.

    Love the cake though.

Hi, If you can't find any dowels then use the stick you get off the childrens balloons at places like McDonalds. I used these a few times and work perfectly. I also bought some garden cane and cut it to size, works just aswell.

The sticks I mean are this kind of thing.

Hi, I thought I would try these nappy cakes-what do you think? the blue one still needs some finishing touches of a pram sheet or muslins wrapped round top layer and a bigger ribbon.
  • forgot to say that those blankets from primark are lush, they are so soft. I have also bought a lemon one and a pink one to do some more.

Next project to try is the door hangers! and reunited sock boards.

    Happy crafting
