my daughter was in size 1 nappies originally for about 1 month then size two for 2 months. tehn at 3 months she was on size 3. now at five months we are on size 4. she is 16lbs but i thought the threes were a bit tight on her!

can anyone show me a back view of their nappy cakes! mine look rubbish at the back. for the mini ones a cant secure the muslin right so it doesnt go all flappy and the blankets on the 3 tiers just arent hapening. how do u secure yours to look all neat!! help!!

Don't have a pic of the back of mine however I use a little bit of tape on the florist ribbon and then tie the ribbon wuite tightly in a knot on the back and trim the ends. Will take a picture of one for you later on. For muslins you could fold to the size you need (height of nappies) then iron it flat so that the folds are ironed in if that makes sense as sometimes this helps. I have done it quite a few times especially for my smaller cakes

Can I ask what you are buying from the wholesalers? that seems extortionate!!!

I love these nappy cakes, they are all beautiful, well done.
My baby is due in 11 days but no-one else I know is this crafty/creative/thoughtful - would it be silly to make myself one?! LOL!

    HI Natbag,

Presumably if you are due in 11 days then you have everything you need i.e nappies etc ... so why not give it a go :) Will give you something to do and keep you busy :) Plus if you make yourself one then you have pics to show people and you may well get asked to make some for other people :) Good luck with your last 11 days ... My last 11 days were exciting ... well til they went from 11 days to 13 to be induced and then she still wasn't budging so they wanted to send me home ... stubborn little madam just wanted to be born the day after her grandad!

What you were saying about sizes of nappies for different ages. Could someone help me out here – Perhaps have a list of approximate sizes for ages! (I am reeallyyy old you see! And can’t go by my son cos he’s 35 LOL!!!) It would take a bit of the guesswork out of it..

    Morning Moonpenny,

Sorry for the late post last night which looking back made very little sense.
Going off sizes on the nappies and off my daughters weights etc I probably can't help as my daughter was so chunky. Anyway here goes ...

    Size 1 - 4-11llbs
    Size 2 - 6-13 llbs
    Size 3 - 9-20 llbs
    Size 4 - 15-44llbs
    Size 4+ - 20-44llbs
    Size 5 - 24-55llbs
    Size 5+ - 29-60llbs
    Size 6 - 35+ llbs

Size 1 - personally I didn't bother with either of my children as one was 7llb6 and the other was 7llb1.5 so went straight into size 2's. They stayed in these for around 2-3 months old before moving upto size 3's

Size 3 - They were in these til around 8 or 9 months if I remember rightly, my son possibly a bit longer? (cant remember as it was 6 yrs ago!) Anyway they stayed in them quite a while which is why I use size 3's as they cakes don't have to be used straight away
Size 4 - My daughter went in these around 8 or 9 months, she was only in them 1 month though as she kept leaking so we put her upto size 4+
Size 4+ don't be fooled ... these by pampers own admission are exactly the same size nappy as the size 4, however the only difference is that the 4+ holds more fluid than the 4 (I can relate to this as my girly couldn't do size 4's but is now in 4+ she is now 17 months old!) she will probably be in these til I start potty training her.

I am afraid that is as far as I can go as my son was potty trained at 2 and my daughter won't be long til she is potty trained so have never bought a nappy any bigger than this!. However I know my friend has a 3 yr old and her daughter is still in nappies she has just gone upto size 6 nappies and heer daughter was in size 5 nappies from around 20 months.

Hopefully this will help in some way?

Personally I think to use size 2 or 3's on the cake unless it is a special order for a christening cake or suchlike where the baby is around 1 and then maybe use a size 4+ If it is an order then you can probably ask. If they are unsure then go with a 4+ or size 5 to be on the safe side.

Oh no! I don't envy you! I know I had had enough by the time I was 6 months pregnant!!! Can you not do it when OH is out or something? Tell him you are nesting and that if he values his life in any way shape or form he will turnn his back and not ask? :rotfl:

I'm quite safe as OH gave up on questioning on what I was doing *this time* a while ago. I get the strange looks etc still but he knows not to say anything ;)

Well I have 5 on the go for kids and friends but need some stuffing, so that's today's job. I just hope this baby stays in long enough for me to finish them and the nappy cake!

    Hi all,
Bellag your twin cake is lovely. Where do you get your lovely blankets from? Does anyone know where I can get white ones? (No Dunhelm near me)

I looked at your website and Wow! – I am well impressed, and to think you did it yourself it’s really professional. I have fallen out with my cakes since I have seen everyone elses.

Hi Moonpenny- thankyou and thankyou. My blankets are from Dunelm for 1.99. They have a website so maybe you can order from there? They are cheap but very good quality so if you needed a few maybe it would work out ok costwise with delivery?

Please dont fall out with your cakes- they are absolutely gorgeous! Incredibly neat and professional looking!

    B x
