    Hi All

I've been reading your thread for a couple of days and thought it was time to say 'Hi'.

    Hi!
My name is Ellie and I've just made my first nappy cake for a friend who had her baby last week and I've not seen her yet. I have a bit of a problem with the cake though in that the middle layer has gone all wonky because of the bottles that are inside poking up from the bottom layer and half way through the middle layer. What do you do about the difficult sapes this causes and how do you stop it going wonky?

I'll see if I can find my camera and I'll take a picture of it to post for you all.

    Hi Ellie,

I try and keep the tall items in the middle that will come up into the next layer then push the second layer on top. The nappies that sit on top of the higher items should then sit higher than the others. I take these out and replace with the clothes etc that I put in to give me a level layer. Hope that makes sense.

    Ouch!

Just been working out a few figures for the posh gift fayre! Because I've been told I will need a fair amount of stock I've worked out what I'll need! Tried to cut down ingredients as well but still comes out at £620!
Will buy the nappies through Boots at xmas shopping evening next week and that will get me £24.00 back in points. Want to use some waitrose baby toileteries for the 2 and 3 tier cakes so can use a £15 discount voucher for Ocado. Hopefully found a £5 off £50 code for John Lewis so if do multiple orders can save £30. So that brings it down to £551! Such a scary amount to lay out with no guarantees!

    Hi everyone,

Bravobeastie, Your first cake is lovely! Just needs a bit of ribbon for added pizzaz!!!
You can get buying some goodies now you are on your way.

I use double sided tape for keeping things on board but only under toiletries etc. Don’t want to spoil nappies.

Rusty – I have used Tesco and Boots own nappies (newborn size 2) but I find them stiffer than Pampers. I decided to go with Boots but they are making my cakes taller. Almost half a tier again. Has anyone tried Toys-r-us nappies? Someone recommended them to me! At this rate, all my cakes will have different nappies in them.

Elliep – I put a thick paper tube around my middle contents (goes thinner at the top because of small top tier) You can only do this if you put thinner things in middle like talc or a bottle etc. I stand one thing on top of another, put the paper round and tape it. If you need to fill in, for your other tiers, just wrap loose nappies around tube.

Becs – It’s really exciting what you are doing but I can see how scary it is as well! Like Rusty, I think you should do both fairs too if you can. Are you keeping your style the same for the different fairs and just changing the goods, or doing your cakes differently? I think I am putting too much in mine for the price but if I try and take things out, I don’t feel there is enough in! If that makes sense!!!!

Made one with M& S Duck but pic isn’t very good. Hard to get true colours!

    Ouch!

Becs can you send me a PM with the shops you need to shop in (hope that makes sense) I am the queen of voucher codes and can generally sniff them out a mile away if there are any!!! I can see if I can find you any more codes?

Moonpenny another fabulous cake!!! Well done

I contacted a local teashop yesterday it has huge glass windows and you have to walk past it if you are trying to get anywhere. Anyway she has said I can put a display in there and she doesn't want any commision, she also said I need to put flyers/business cards in there aswell. I think her aim is to fill up with windows as she has marshmallow houses in there and home made bags already! This could be great for me though. Plan to speak to OH about it tonight and see what we can up with design wise :)

Right someone at work has asked me to do one, but only a £20 one.

I normally charge £30 and have a bottle of wine in the middle, then:

1st teir: Hooded towel and booties
2nd teir: 2 sleep suits, 2 bibs and 3 pairs of socks
    3rd teir: Muslim cloth
    Toy on top

Im thinking of cutting it down by taking away the 3rd teir and putting a baby bottle in the middle. You reckon this would look enough? Or will I look stingy? Or would you cut even more out? Like maybe take away the booties and put the socks on the 1st teir instead?

In regards to muslim cloths where do people get theirs? I love asdas but have found a seller on ebay that is dirt cheap. No idea on quality though so wondered if you guys had tried?

Thanks Shelley, Thought duck looked a bit big and had trouble with colours as it is sort of “off white” rather than cream!

It’s awful when you have computer problems (been there, still there! LOL.) Bet you’ve had withdrawal symptoms!!!

Has anyone been having trouble with Asda not stocking bodysuits to match sleepsuits? I bought some of their new 2 pks of sleepsuits in yellow /white and also some white / print in 0 – 3 mths, and I can’t get the bodysuits. I have to make a bus journey 40 mins each way to get stuff that they don’t have. In fact , there is hardly anything of that size. The assistant rang round but still couldn’t get any. Have sent them an e-mail.

KE15snw – I would certainly take some stuff away. I would only put 1 sleepsuit in & 1 bib, instead of 2. I wouldn’t put bottle in either. Either keep it plain on outside and put everything in the middle or put stuff on outside and make it a 2 tier! Does that make sense? You will probably think I am mean now!!!

    Moonpenny,

Love the duck cake! It looks great. I'm thinking if I make up the stock I've accounted for and do the first fair, I don't think I would do as much there as the posh one 2 days later but if I do then it does give me the monday to make up more. PLanning on doing 12 boxes of cupcakes, 8 single tier (2 pink,2 blue,2 neutral & 2 Xmas), 8 two tier and 8 three tier.

    Kr15snw,

Hopefully you use MusliNs rather than Muslims as that might prove to be a bit tricky! I've seen the ones on internet as well for alot cheaper than asda so am going to order some to see.

On a seperate point, what does everyone think of these bibs? Style though not necessarily the colour od design!
