June 2017 Grocery Challenge

Whoops, forgot I had placed a pre order with musclefoods and got home to a parcel of meat to unpack. £76.50 away from my budget I had forgotten about. Luckily I had enough room in my freezers to squeeze in a bit extra.
I'm currently at £179.51/£300 and it's only the 6th of June!! So I have £120.49 left for the rest of the month to do the 4 of us. It's manageable but I'll just need to pay a close eye to what I'm buying.JAN - £208.56/£250 NSD-8
FEB - £121.51/£200 NSD- 1
Penny a day challenge #001: £200.79/£667.950 -
£5.20 spent on top up shop in Sainsbury's
£67.60/£2600 -
There are so many lovely sounding things in everyone's meal plans it makes me hungry!
I had some chilli bean soup from the freezer for my lunch today and as I was feeling really quite hungry I went a bought a packet of pitta breads for 42p so I could have a pitta with my soup.
I need to use up anything that could go off while I'm on hols next week so the plan is that tonight I have some leftover salt and pepper tofu with noodles and broccoli.
Tomorrow will be pasta with some spinach and mixed salad leaves whizzed into a pesto with some cashews, garlic and lemon and half a tin of creamed mushrooms. Or possibly a curry using the spinach, leaves, lemon and mushrooms and some lentils. This is why I can't meal plan, I can't stick to one idea.
£47.02/£1000 -
Total of £30.23 to add after doing the recipes from the weekend. Today and yesterday were nsds. Dd asked (in front of friend -grr) if friend could come over for dinner today. Said friend is a little fussy - she didn't like what I made last time, but I said it was risotto today. Anyway, I made a pasta bake at the same time, thinking leftovers could be for my lunches this week. None of them (dd, friend and ds) had any risotto, so that's what I have for lunches now! Pasta bake almost entirely demolished, so good job I did that too!
Can't remember what's on the plan for tomorrow's dinner, but I shall check before bed in case I need to grab anything from the freezer. Prob something quick and easy, as Wednesday is my tricky day.
Over half of budget gone, with next shop due on 11th... Not looking good!!

Just checked meal plan and it's omelette, toast and beans. Not sure if I'll be able to get the ch (esp dd) to eat that, so may do a tin of soup for them. Either way, it's an easy one!!

Happy Hump Day everyone! It's all downhill to the weekend from here!
Small spend of £1 on Monday for 4 crusty rolls... I couldn't resist!
Feeling very virtuous as I have a sweet potato and coconut curry in the slow cooker while I'm at work today, so for girl's night tonight (me, my mum, and my sister at mine for dinner and a film) I am sorted! Plus, I cunningly chose a recipe that used up the last half a red cabbage that has been loitering with intent in my fridge for WEEKS now! Chopped off the dodgy looking bits and it was fine inside!
I must make more curries, for some reason they never occur to me!
Whilst the oven was on last night to partially cook the sweet potato, I also roasted the butternut squash I need on thursday for a barley salad... how organised!! :rotfl:

Night all,

One of my Son's favourite teas was a baked bean omelette. Flipping it over and sealing it like a pasty so that he only found the beans "inside" always used to make him happy. Thanks for jogging my memorySave £12k in 2025 #2 I am at £4863.32 out of £6000 after May (81.05%)
OS Grocery Challenge in 2025 I am at £1286.68/£3000 or 42.89% of my annual spend so far

I've combined my grocery budget with toiletries and household stuff (cleaning etc.) ... which has whacked the running total to £149 already after only 1 week
I'll just run with it for now and see how it goes. Got a tip from one of the Debt Free Diaries to split spending into weeks rather than the whole month, which I am going to try, because I usually overspend massively after payday.
Small success today that I took lunch to work (this is a constant battle as I find it quite boring!) and doing chicken pie for kids tonight and pasta for me and DH. I've got meals planned up to Saturday and one in reserve so hoping next week's shop won't be too much. May go to Ald1 - although it was interesting on the Supershoppers program to see that some of the budget s/m actually sell smaller multipacks etc and aren't really cheaper!GC Feb 2019 (to 10th) £397.07/£3000 -
Ah, Suffolk Lass, that sounds lush! It's amazing what memories food holds for us! My two had soup, as I predicted, but I might try a bean omelette in the near future!
Another nsd today. Tomorrow probably won't be one, as I'm going ysing with my oh. We know how to live on date night!! I don't need anything at all, but it's a cheap date...!
Nearly the weekend guys!
