For anybody following this thread, thought it would be interesting to post a poll on what you will do?

Can anyone clarify the tiering for Amex. Is it 0.5% upto 5,000 and 1% thereafter or 1% on the whole spend if over 5,000 in one cashback year?

    Thanks!

    Thanks!

It's the first option, you get 0.5% on the first 5k then 1% on any spend over.

Thanks, hardly worth changing then apart from the 5% during the first 3 months. I only spend around 10k a year.

I'm a bit late but I've got my secure message in, and we'll see what happens.

I received £50, that was their first offer and it was hard for me to justify more when I spend around 8k a year on it.

Not as much as others, but £50 seems to be the going rate. I'm pleased.

what about tesco cards which award clubcard points and have NO fee?

My new tesco purchases card should arrive next week and it will take over from my cap one card for my spending (including tesco fuel and food shopping), I have also ordered a card for my sister to use to fill up her car with petrol so I get the points for that as well.

To me that is effectively a cashback card providing you ok spending the rewards at tesco.

I agree, but the problem with the Tesco credit card is exactly the same as the Asda card, unless you shop regularly with the issuing retailer the rewards do not equate to 1% cashback at any retailer.

I don't honestly think that there is one clear winning alternative here. There is quite simply nothing out there in the market as good as a straight no nonsense 1% Cashback card. So they will be different alternative solutions depending on individual circumstances. That seems clear from the poll I hosted.

    RIP my Barclaycard Amex

But surely 1% after 5k of initial spend ?

EDIT - Forgot to acknowledge the 5% for the first 3 months!

Well Done on getting your £50 offer NoviceAngel.

I wonder why they are offering any compensation to stay? I would thought once you receive your compo then you'd switch to Amex or Asda regardless ?

To answer earlier question. Maybe they don't want too many people reading the forum leaving????? Probably keep Barclaycard as a no nonsense 0.5% cashback (except wait until July for cashback) could dabble with an Amex again. I guess theres no easy clear winner as you have polled/stated. Undecided.
