How is Nationwide 0.5% CB better then 0.5% Barclaycard?

Same cashback rate, Nationwide however offer free purchases abroad.

Nationwide CC is restricted to current account holder and the 0.5% cashback may well be offset by the worst Visa exchange rate (compared to the often mentioned MasterCard's Creation, Halifax Clarity and Santander Zero)

Perfectly true, I have an old Nationwide Gold that pays just 0.25% that doesn't require a Nationwide Current account (even though I have one) I didn't give the interchange rates a thought, I know Martin was pulled up on this and it caused a little storm.

I do however, follow Martins advice and now use the Halifax Clarity MasterCard in my abroad wallet.

Edit - great for people who bank with nationwide, not so great for others.

Additional cashback on selected retailers through Simply Rewards.

It may also be possible to layer it with Topcashback/Quidco in-store cashback. I used my Halifax Clarity card (registered for Halifax Cashback Rewards) at a retailer and got cashback through that and Quidco (despite Quidco explicitily excluding cards which are registered for a bank's loyalty scheme).

I noticed that back in April Barclaycard set up a new direct debit with the reference of my new Visa card I'm yet to receive. Earlier today I set up a new direct debit with a different current account, and they set it up with the old Amex card reference number. I wonder if my August direct debit will be a c0ck up?

May be advantage to some before you ask to close your account.

Barclays do provide of the best Balance transfer deals.

I received offer letter offering 0.9% for 12 months on Balance transfers and Money transfers plus 0% for purchase.

It seems they have closed the old account on 3rd July and credited the cashback due a couple of days later. My cashback does not seem to include the Amex purchases from my last statement to 3rd July.
I will wait for my next statement, due next week, to see if they credit it then.
