Avatar not visible

Hi, I'm a newbie. I'm trying to get my Avatar to be visible. When I added a post to a thread it showed my Avatar next to the "Quick Reply" box but after I submitted the message my Avatar is just showing as a white head and shoulders silhouette on a blue background. I've gone through "Do not use an Avatar" in my settings to make sure it's not selected, it isn't. I've made my privacy viewable to everyone and gone through everything I can think of but still no joy. It shows a picture of my Avatar on the "Edit Avatar" page but it isn't appearing on my post. I tried uploading a photo but it didn't work, probably too large a file size. I even tried a different browser. I'm interested to know what is visible to anyone reading this. Can anyone help please?

It's to do with "Edit Options" then "Miscellaneous Options" then "Forum Skin". It was set to "Use Forum Default (recommended)". I changed it to "New masthead, fixed width (recommended) and hey flippin presto! A whole new look as you would expect with a new skin. It's taken a while to find my way round having been used to the other skin but I'm up and running now. The new skin allowed me to select my Avatar and save changes and as you may see, the Avatar is now visible. I can even add these cheeky chappies :j:T:rotfl:

Nope, you have no avatar that is visible to me. I am on the blue default skin.

Try changing it to the one as I described in my previous reply to my 1st post. I think your on the wrong one.

I can't get on with the green. In any case avatars should be visible to all. You will see previous posts on this board, all with the same problem.
But if you are happy, then that is all that matters.
Did you have a look at the link?

Yes I had a quick look at the link but as I believe my Avatar is now visible to all, the link isn't of any use. Before I changed to the "New masthead, fixed width (recommended) I could only see my Avatar showing as a white head and shoulders silhouette on a blue background. As soon as I changed to the new skin my Avatar appeared on all my posts. Thanks for your help anyway. It will be interesting to see if anyone else has any comments.

Thanks. I've just been trying stuff out. I switched skins to the original one and as you say my Avatar isn't visible. Switching back to "New masthead, fixed width (recommended) makes it visible. It looks like the skin you use to select your Avatar makes a difference. I haven't been able to get the original skin to show my Avatar but I'll keep experimenting. Thanks again.

I've been trying things out. The skin that you get when you register, "Use Forum Default (recommended)", (the blue skin), doesn't display the MSE pre-defined images even though one is selected by default. It does however show a custom Avatar that you upload. The skin that I switched to, "New masthead, fixed width (recommended), (the green skin), shows all Avatars. That's why members using the blue skin can't see pre-defined Avatars created on the green skin. I've tried everything I can think of to get the blue skin to show pre-defined Avatars but I can't get it to work. I've sent a message to "Technical Problems" hoping they can offer a solution. If anyone reading this is having the same problem I recommend swithing to the green skin, "New masthead, fixed width (recommended) . It looks a lot different but it works better and once you get to know it you won't go back. You can easily switch back from the green skin via "User CP" in the green bar if you can't get happy with it. That takes you to "Your Profile" where you can make the changes. :beer::coffee::snow_laug
