So, I got my email from PN and phoned them up to say I'd like to cancel my account and they said fine. Set up BT and will all swap over in 14 days. Now had email from PN saying that they are moving my LANDLINE service and that additional charges may apply if I'm moving broadband too. I foolishly assumed that I had a single account with PN and when anything changed I could withdraw from all of it - is this not correct?

    Two reasons for charges :

The T&Cs (changed in summer last year I believe) now say that they consider a migration to an LLU company in the same way as a move to cable (Virgin) , ie as a cease, so make a charge .

It says that this does not apply to companies, including BT (of course), that use BT lines.

However, if you are moving within your minimum term the broadband would have an exit penalty as only the line rental has increased in price.

Since we had the inflicted 'benefit' of combined prices , taking just the line away leaves you with standalone broadband, which costs more than the combined price less the cost of line rental, meaning you can't take advantage of leaving without penalty, when there is a price rise, unless you do pay a penalty to take the service which hasn't had a price increase.

Perhaps the government should address this as a line increase does increase the compulsory combined price.

Now that companies are only allowed to advertise a single monthly price and not broadband and separate line rental, then I'm not sure that they can use that argument.

But with most of the ISPs you can still have separate services eg Broadband with PN and line rental with BT EVEN THO' the adverts show combined pricing.

I have also applied to switch my plusnet services after informing them I am leaving due to the price rise. I applied to switch to BT on Thursday and yesterday, I received the same email as you regarding a termination fee for my landline. I spoke to them on live chat and was advised that the previous agent had not put the correct marker on my account  She says she has done it now and has opened a ticket so hopefully it will be ok!

You can cancel all of your services due to the price rise, even the services that are not affected. I switched from BT a few months ago due to there price rise and the whole account had to be cancelled, including the 2 bt mobile sims I had that were not going to be affected by it.

I had this when leaving talk talk as well. While you can leave for free if price rises are the reason for leaving, they have to tell the computer that this is why you are leaving.

Advice was posted on MSE to not call your existing provider. While there is no point on the face of it as they are failing to act anyway. It would give an idea whether it's an odd mistake or whether someone is on the fiddle.

I have jumped to bt, it's not as good as the plusnet deal was when taking into account cashback but as I don't have to pay that back when leaving then it does make me slightly better off each month. I'm now locked in for another 12 months and I could miss out on a cheap deal at the time my plusnet would have expired, but predicting the future is not a skill that I've mastered. But maybe BT will raise their prices.....

I joined my phone line saver and fibre in Aug 2016 with a 18 month deal.
Can I leave both services without penalty ?
What's the best way to do this ?
1- Just join a new service / say nothing and hope all goes ok without any problems and any money will be refunded automatically ?
    Or
2 - Contact them 1st to say I'm going to be leaving and setting up with a new supplier etc ?
