  • Benefit change could help single parents

    http://www.metro.co.uk/news/article.html?in_article_id=68498&in_page_id=34

'Compared to not working at all, a single mum or dad with one child, who is earning the minimum wage and eligible for housing and council tax benefits, is around £20 a week better off if they work 4 hours.

But they are only £24 a week better off if they work 15 hours, compared to £44 if they work 16 hours.'

'Changing the system so that working up to 16 hours led to no reduction in means-tested benefits would cost the Government £790 million a year, but increase lone parents' employment rate by 5.4 percentage points.'

Children get fat because they eat crap (I should know, I see them on the bus eating Greggs pasties, sweets, biscuits and cakes for breakfast) and over protective parents refuse to let them out in the fresh air to exercise.

It isn't hard to understand - eat more calories than you expend and you get fat.

I didn't make it up.....

  • This is a great powerpoint presentation on all to do with unmarried mothers, loneparents, singleparents or one-parent families.

All stats from 2001 census, well worth a look for all those so interested.
