Oh please! You can have both, you know! My whole family have worthwhile jobs or careers and amazingly, we all still have time for each other, love each other and spend quality time together! Are you honestly saying that you are teaching your children that they cannot have a fulfilling career AND have a familt they love dearly? I sincerely hope not, because if you are, there is no hope.
Edited to add that I am talking about a big extended family - siblings, parents, granparents and children.0 -
Seems there are 2 kinds of parents in the world. The 'material girls' who will go out to work at all costs even if it means moving away from their children and the 'nature nurtures' who would always put their family before anything else. I'm proud to say I am the latter.2008 Comping ChallengeWon so far - £3010 Needed - £230Debt free since Oct 20040

Seems there are 2 kinds of parents in the world. Those who will go to work at all costs to provide a decent standard of life without relying on benefits and those that don't.
I am proud to say I am the former0 -
I'm sure you'll find some benefit that will cover the costs. You find it for everything else.
The thing is Fred/ Bob/ Dave, you need to learn to help yourself. If you find a job in another town, you find a way to make it happen. You move up there for a few months on your own. For that few months, you get a room in a shared house, so minimal outgoings. Then, when you can afford it, the rest of your family can move with you.
Clearly some people just have more ambition than you.

State benefits are for those in need, not those scroungers who can't be bothered to do anything for themselves.
I am not saying that I think that any individual falls into either category. I think that is a decision that a person can only decide for themselves (if they can see past their blinkered vision).
For those that make things happen for themselves (and their families), very best of luck to you x
For those that think that the state owes them a living, there really is no hope for you.Gone ... or have I?0 -

Have fun children0 -
Sarahsaver, how did you manage to shack up and have children with a violent drugged up bloke? Wasn't the writing on the wall from quite early in your relationship? Or did he suddenly have a brainstorm, or what? I am genuinely curious as to how these things turn from cosy young family to total waste of space.
Also, yes undoubtedly child rearing is a job, but it is not an economically viable reason for letting the tax payer feed, clothe and house them. It's enough surely that the t/p educates them at no expense to the parent/s.
For the purpose of this discussion, perhaps we should establish that by "job" we mean some form of remunerative work that brings home the bread and butter and pays the bills.
And as for the comment further up, about not being able to live with yourself (not you SS, I think it was BS) if the children went to a child minder, well all I can say is that is a shameful insult to child minders everywhere. The point is, they might be young, but they are trained, and while they are paying into the tax system for looking after your child, you are also paying into it by being able to work. Win win situation.
Sometimes I think Nye Bevan must be turning in his grave.
I haven't bogged off yet, and I ain't no babe
