Why want to be mortgage free? With so low interest rates, having a mortgage is not as bad as it seems.

Being mortgage free for us means no outgoings other then the rates and other living costs which in turn allows us to work part time in lesser paid jobs that are on our doorsteps which means no more commuting and just living to work

Interest rates will change and when they do, people are going to hurt. Whilst rates are so low, throw every spare penny you have at the mortgage and get it cleared

South Wales is lovely, and there's plenty of cheaper houses.

You could live in the valleys, where you could buy a two bedroom house for about £50,000 in some places.

So interest rates are going to stay this low for the entire mortgage term are they? (in plenty of cases the mortgage term = the rest of their working lives)
