I enquired in a quite lengthy conversation with a high ranking powershop staff member a few months ago....

Do you have contact details for this person? Would you be interested in sending them a message to let them know the 'cat is out the bag' i.e. we know about the differential discount regime they now operate and existing longer term customers are unimpressed?

Would you be prepared to send him/her that message?

I contacted them via Facebook when the October pack mishap happened. It was obvious to me then that there were different price levels as I pointed out on here at the time. I don't have their contact details. They rang me after I was scathing of their gas prices and new baseline tariffs on Facebook . I think powershop silently watch this thread and they most certainly respond to Facebook posts very promptly. My conversation was about gas prices and how the new pricing structure would affect me. They didn't mention an overall decline in pack value.

Ok. I've had a thought. What I will do later this week is post a 12 month review of powershop on their Facebook site. I've been very impressed by powershop in my 12 months so far and achieved record low prices for electricity certainly going back over the last half dozen years. I'm still saving money but like most others on here I am concerned and frustrated not necessarily with the discounts being offered (in most cases they better last years rates) but with the quantity of power we are offered for purchase. If this continues I most certainly will move on as powershop will no longer be a viable proposition

To say I'm disappointed with the seemingly differing levels of discount for loyal and new customers is an understatement. Its wrong end of. The loyal band of customers some of whom post on here accumulated quite a lot of credit in the early years and trusted powershop with these large sums of money.
How are we repaid. With extremely disappointing levels of discount and very low quantities on offer whereas newbies appear to be rewarded with high levels of discount.

My Facebook post will mention all this in a similar way I expressed disappointment back in April with the new pricing formats. If others want to do the same it may help
  • I was not happy with the fact that the wording of the "Refund" Policy is very poor and they didn't seem keen on clarifying the policy by simplifying the wording to explain that anyone and everyone who purchases a powerpack can request it to be refunded at any time in the future.

This apparent "dual discount" for current and new customers is almost "Beyond the pale"!

I'm going to hang on until I see what they offer me for my second year which starts on October 2nd and compare that with what the comparison sites have on offer as we get toward the end of September.....

From my experience mick you will be offered nothing.. My 12 months expired June 6th. My monthly review came on the 13th. My tariff name is still standard on my bill and my achievable rates and standard rates have remained the same. I was virtually told this would happen In.my conversation with the powershop guy. This contradicts their website which states you will be given a new fixed tariff after 12 months. I'll wait till July 13th and see if my tariff has altered on my statement but I've not been informed its going to and my annual review statement didn't mention it either
  • Tafrock, so I should switch supplier then switch back after the minimum number of days required to compete the supply transfer?
The entire switching process takes up to 21 days + 14 day cooling off period, however most compete in17 days (three days plus a two week cooling off period).
So I could be back in just over 1 month, assuming no early leaver penalty.

It would be interesting to know if the improved rates would be available if someone did that wouldn't it. It appears that signing a new contact puts you on a new first year promise previously known as easy saver promise. And then you're offered better rates as part of your first year promise but the only way to sign a new contract is to leave and come back. You can't just switch tariff as you can with other suppliers
Im no expert but that's how it appears to work
  • Tafrock,
Sounds like a plan, depending on what the competition have to offer during September....

PS I managed to post a snapshot of the current offers available to me - as you can see as well at the monetary value they are show in "Days usage"

Here's what the website states should happen after twelve months. In 4 days I'll have been with powershop 13 months and this procedure has not taken place yet. I'm still on exactly the same rates as previously. Easy saver shopper which my tariff information states is a fixed tariff not a variable tariff

Here's the website quote 'I joined Powershop before April 2018 !!!8211; what is my pricing model?
If you joined us before April 2018 you!!!8217;ll be a Powershop Pro customer on a standard variable rate and buying Powerpacks to save against this rate. Once you!!!8217;ve been with us for over 12 months, we!!!8217;ll get in touch to move you from your standard variable rate to a fixed rate. You!!!8217;ll still buy Powerpacks to save against this rate as normal, and all the details regarding the tariff costs will be in our communication.

Your First Year Promise (previously known as Easy Saver Promise) will also end after you!!!8217;ve been with us for 12 months, but by then you!!!8217;ll be buying Powerpacks and beating your First Year Promise anyway!'
  • OK, So they move you from a variable price contract to a fixed price contract - That sounds good because it means that the price can't go up for the period of the contract.

The variable rate hasn't changed in the last 9 months, however it could at any time.
Of course the way they can "Effectively" increase the variable rate is by reducing the discounts and amounts available in Powerpacks........

The other suppliers are all doing it but don't have a way of disguising the increase in a tariff.

I'd be interested in running a model to see how the 2016/2017 discounts compare with the 2017/18 discounts.
I think they were posted on this forum, but if anyone has them to hand..... I need 2 sets of 12 months of discounts on all powerpacks offered.....
