I too am happy with Powershop. I buy all of the powerpacks etc that look sensible and keep an eye on what is happening. I do not micro-analyse day by day or month by month though, preferring to look at the big picture, comparing with competitors when I assess the need to do so.0

Good suggestion especially as you also achieved 34% discount on your 2nd year with PS if I remember correctly. I also like your uncomplicated approach to PS powerpacks.0

new pack available, quite juicy for me at 41.6% but only for £4 of power.0
-
Cost £3.73 worth £6.38 at 41.6% discount just 2 or 3 days power.0
-
My Ask a Stupid Question pack is only £1.83, worth £2.23. I'm in my second year though.
I've been getting 2 Smarty-pants packs each month because I have gas and electricity. I could swear that I had both the September ones ready to purchase. One of them has disappeared following the account review. Any other dual fuel customers had this happen?0 -
I'm dual fuel but only ever had 1 Smarty- pants pack each month.0

Here are my offerings from Powershop for October (plus March Future Pack).
For reference, in second year with Powershop for Electricity only.
Little Extra Pack - 21.5% discount - 3 days worth power - One Pack Offered
Simple Saver - 19.4% discount - 3 days worth power - One Pack Offered
Jumbo - 8.2% discount - 7 days worth power - One Pack Offered
March Future Pack - 14% discount - 6 days worth power - Two Packs Offered
Amazingly though, even though the discounts are worse than I got in my first year with Powershop, checking Which? Switch Energy just now Powershop have actually moved up the chart to being the third cheapest supplier (beaten, but only just, by Symbio Energy).0 -
I joined Powershop in November 2018 having come from Ovo. I've got two properties, Powershop serves my furnished holiday let in the Cairngorms, so the leccy consumption is massive because:
A: No gas in the Cairngorms
B: Hot tub in the garden
C: Heating is all electric
With Ovo, my annual bill was £3450, but I had E7 and storage heaters. Storage heaters are massively wasteful, so I made the decision to bin them and get a smart internet connected German radiator system installed and come off of E7.
Powershop let me read a dual meter into a single, and I researched their whole 'Top Shopper' thing.
Joined on a rate of 12.95pkwh plus daily charge of 19.76.
I'm now coming to the end, and the new tariff on offer is more expensive (though the expected energy wholesale drop due this month may see a new tariff being created) and I'm considering leaving.
However, my total saving with Powershop, because I bought ever pack available (which is what they recommend) is around £1250, This is a combination of course of changing the heating system and getting rid of E7, but also their rate was excellent when I took the contract.
For those that aren't quite sure how it works, it's easy enough:
- Make sure you have the cash reserves to purchase every pack available. Right now I am £2387 in credit, or 39 weeks ahead. This is because I know that if the winter is bad, that excess is going to get chewed away.
- If you leave Powershop at the end of your contract, they refund you any overpayments.
- If you don't buy every Powerpack and achieve Top Shopper, you'll be on the higher rate, though there's a protected rate for new customers that don't understand the system, so you don't get hit too badly.
The lesson is straightforward - buy every pack going and be a Top Shopper, and at the end of the year, assess the saving you've made and if you want to stay, stay, or if you want to leave, you get a full refund.
For the actual purchase of packs, I get a ding on my phone, tap the Powershop app, enter my four digit code, it shows me the pack that's just launched, I hit buy, hit 'done' with saved card details, job done.
I've really enjoyed being with them, customer service is outstandingly good and I'm just sad I can't get a better rate (for now) with them or I'd definitely stay.
Oh, that's a point - any packs you've bought that go into the new tariff, they will only cover the energy rate AT THE TIME OF USE, not the time you bought them.
I'm looking at Octopus but don't have a SMET so may not be able to use their Agile system.0 -
