My final bill is looking like it will work out as a flat 13p per kWh (more than what I'll be paying with symbio at 12.4p and a reduced standing charge of 15.5p per day instead of powershops 17.57p)

Bear in mind this last bill is almost exclusively paid for by simple saver powerpacks at 19.4% discount. Only yesterday's Easter pack is extra at 26.8%)

My last 3 months unit rate has calculated to 11.85p 11.01 and 9.82 in February so you can see the way the discounts are dropping drastically. A difference of 3.18p per kWh since February

Be aware existing customers. Keep an eye on your costs and leave if they become too high

I've just done a new quote and the new Top Shopper is £7 per month more than my current Top Shopper rate (if it can be achieved). In fact, Octopus (from whom I switched) is now the same as my current Top Shopper rate, now that they've reduced their prices. With a single £50 referral credit it would be £4 per month cheaper.

I will definitely be keeping an eye on the October/November packs to see if it's worth staying or switching away soon.

It's a Shame because I really enjoy the concept of powershop. Cannot fault customer services either in my many contacts with them.

However spiralling costs mean I'm forced to jump ship

I quite agree. I do wonder if we are witnessing the hand of npower in the stealth price rises via the reduction in the availability of decent discount Powerpacks?

I got a lovely email inviting me to discuss my powershop experience with management today. This was in response to me sending them a thank you it's a shame I have to leave email and wasn't a standard if you're having second thoughts email. I will be taking them up on the offer sometime after Easter. If youd like me to mention something on your behalf fewkeste I will do so

Interesting - OK I will. I'll give it some thought and post back on here. It will probably be a mixture of praise for the way a Powershop customer has to get more involved with their energy consumption to get the best from their account, regret at having to move due to disappearing discounts and a plea to flatten the discount profile throughout the year.

Pretty much what I said to them in my leaving email. They wanted to do it today but I was busy. I have had quite a bit of contact with various powershop staff in 24 months giving both positive feedback and constructive criticism.

I just think they value my opinion as a long standing customer
  • Interesting this thread should come up today - I never previously looked at leaving as I intended to just leave when I moved house.

However with the reduction in discounts, I today found a supplier that is approx £50 per year cheaper than powershop's estimates (when my usage is only about £225, that's a big percentage).

I'm currently £153 ahead, looking at my Powerpacks ones from Dec 2017 are still being used! Although, credit to Powershop, as the (slightly) larger discounts throughout 2018 (one offs etc) have all been used up first.

I assume I'll get quite a hefty refund, so essentially they've just held the best part of £150 for me for a year. Not sure what interest benefit they get from that, very little I'd imagine.

It's a shame as I like the concept, but price is everything.

Surprisingly, it seems Outfox the market haven't credit searched me (and their website looks like it was designed by a 4 year old, but that's another matter!). Only £14 a month direct debit though, maybe they just thought it wasn't worth the fee to check up on me!

That's the way powershop works. Your bigger discounted packs are used first.

This means when you leave your credit consists of lower discounted packs.

As I've mentioned elsewhere I am now using simple saver pack at 19. 4%

I require a discount of 28.6% for powershop to be most competive hence why I'm leaving

Also if you look at the current baseline rates (the ones you would get offered if you joined today) they are silly prices meaning an effective discount of approx 50 per cent would be necessary to achieve a competive rate. That's never gonna happen

Like you la la I'm a low user so a 50 or 60 quid difference In price is a lot to me

I'm saddened I have to leave however as I like the hands on concept of powershop but I ain't paying over the odds for it

No - their very clever business model gives them massive savings in overdraft interest - all their customers many advance payments mean lots of interest free cash for them!
