However as you are aware that only runs until October. Who knows what powershop would put me on in October. Their current baseline tariffs are very expensive even if you factor in the top shopper rates

Exactly my point - it's a big risk.

'Buy this expensive thing from my shop now and in six months the things you buy from me will be discounted much more'

What they don't tell you is in six months time, the thing you buy although it will be more heavily discounted, it will also be more expensive.

Today I bought my final powerpack with powershop. Easter feast with a discount of 26.8%

It's been a unique experience being with powershop. Prices for 18 months at lows I haven't experienced in a decade.

Customer support second to none. Sadly the discounts have dried up, my tariff has increased. Good luck everyone..

I will also be moving away on the 24th - to Yorkshire Energy.

I originally started this thread to learn more about Powershop.

It's been an interesting experience and like Tafrock I agree that at the start discounts were very promising.

It is certainly a unique way of buying energy and by necessity causes one to be more involved with one's energy consumption.

Sadly, the Future Packs being offered now for the forseeable future are much lower than has been available in previous years and so I am reluctantly moving on.

I will keep monitoring this thread and I would be grateful if forum contributors could post the amount and % discount of Future Packs and Special Packs as they appear so I will be better informed about when I might possibly return to Powershop.

I can't imagine discounts will become attractive until November Future Packs start appearing and then only if they exceed 28/29% - that is assuming the difference between the Baseline Tariff and the Top Shopper rate offered at that time is still around the 28/29% figure.

If you look at the tariffs powershop are offering for new customers now fewkeste they are very uncompetive. That is my main reason for moving. I know in October my tariff will be altering but to what Combined with discounts that are very low in spring and summer it just doesnt work. I will miss the Concept and the app which is the best I've come across In The utility supply field. So. Much information readily available. I won't miss having to give readings so often

I was't aware of that - I'll get a quote as a new customer to see what's being offered nowadays.

Out of curiosity did a check just now and indeed Powershop is losing its competitive edge.

Currently on the Top Shopper Elec June 2018 Issue 1 rate which should work out at a average rate of 12.19 p/kWh over the year. Their current offer for this area (NE Scotland) is working out at an average rate of 14.732 p/kWh over the first year (plus standing charge 3p/day more expensive).
The most telling thing is that in the past Powershop always used to appear at the top of the comparison site I use (Which? Switch Energy) - now they are 12 other offerings cheaper than them. Looks like I will also be heading elsewhere come the 1st anniversary of the account.

That's exactly what I found. The top shopper rates were dearer than other providers (in my case around a dozen). That's the top shopper rates which may or may not be achievable

Exactly, a rate that may not even be achievable is now beatable by other suppliers!!

The thought occurs to me (and I think I made this point sometime either last year or the year before) is that since Powershop shoppers are more attuned to their consumption and the rates they pay, any customers who believe that Powershop is no longer competitive for them will be able to quickly calculate that fact and will likely move away in short order.

Certainly anyone having doubts now would be well advised to check other suppliers as the Powerpacks on offer from now right throught to roughly October will not offer the discount required to achieve the Top Shopper rate.

Even the current Easter Feast Special Pack is at a discount below that required to achieve Top Shopper rate.

Anyone who is thinking of moving - the time is now as discounts tumble through the rest of spring, summer and the early autumn.
