Yesterday I travelled to dublin happily without encountering any fallen trees. The first meeting went well with an end starting to appear with this quite well paying assignment. The second afternoon meeting was a complete waste. I also had some time to kill so I went for a cheap file and polish as my nails were a mess. The lady did a really good job for £8 that I then smudged on two nails pre second meeting. I was so aware of this.
While in dublin, I exchanged an expensive gift that we had been given but would never make use of. The shop were great and had a sale on. I left with 2 big bags of loot inc a christening gift for Sunday at a total cost of £6 to me. There was one set of glasses that I loved but may not use. They can go in our present stash if that's what we decide but they were lovely and less than half price.
I used to feel bad about returning gifts. Now I feel worse if people's hard earned cash is wasted.
Today I start my full time for 2 weeks shift in the poorly paid job. It'll be a challenge fitting other stuff in but will help with the cash flow. I've already commissioned dd to do an admin task for £15 as she has a week free and unpaid pre her next job.
Yesterday we got a new one cup type water heater delivered. Our old tefal one died over two months ago so we were back to the kettle and I was worried about electricity costs. Tefal no longer make these so this is a new brand, some changes but will hopefully do the job. Fingers crossed that the plasticky taste will go! This was part purchased with some vouchers I had earned from surveys which always helps. Yesterday I cashed out another sb voucher, this time for amazon as I need some moisturiser and they stock my brand for a little less than other suppliers. It's over £50 but I have Rosacea and it works well for me so I'm afraid to shift.
Anyhow, a day's work beckons. Today I am grateful for

Sorry to hear of the waste of time job but at least the first one counter-balanced it! Argggggh to the smudged nails though! How annoying and you're right - you are SO aware of it! I'm quite heavy handed and always have a pale colour on my nails as I invariably chip one - the nude or pale pink doesn't show up as much as if I went for a darker colour!
Good news on the gifts! I'm with you on exchanging them for something you want. It wouldn't bother me if someone changed a gift that I'd bought and I have done the same myself in the past.
Hope the taste of the water heater improves! And I'd stick with the moisturiser - sometimes you have to pay a bit more for quality and what works for you.

Don't think it was the deal of the day one. We got one with quite a large water tank and we all love it already. Boiling a kettle showed how often we drink tea. It was scary!
Yesterday I cleared up ALL our ironing. DH has enough work shirts to get him through the week which means we won't have an iron left to cool in the kitchen each morning. I hate cluttered work tops!
On Saturday, armed with £57 of vouchers, I went to m&s. Got lots of now freezered whoopsied items along with 2 large chicken based dine ins that had no desserts but extra sides. I ended up putting £14 to it but we have the makings of so many dinners it should carry us through the next 2 weeks esp as dd heads off on Saturday for 2 weeks. £42 of vouchers came from sb and £co and £15 were a gift. Will do a top up towards end of week for fresh stuff and will use the £5 off a £25 spend. This will get me the next voucher and that shop generally has good cleaning offers too. Also, it's my mum's birthday next week so will be attempting fudge, etc. that requires unsalted butter.
This week I am working full time on site covering leave while tidying up other jobs. I also need to get receipts gathered. I have done a quick expenses calculation and, once I get these done and transferred, provided I live cash frugally, I will have built my current account buffer up to where it needs to be. It may dip again after the end of the month bills but not by too much. I'm relieved as our emergency funds are below low.
We also have an overseas wedding in September coming up. DH is due arrears of a pay rise and this will be used to fund spends and wedding gift. This is the third member of the same family to get married and we went to the other two so kinda feel obligated to be there. I wish we could give it a miss and use the money and air miles else where.
Yesterday DH's father called for less than 2 mins to thank us for his Father's Day gift. It'd nearly have been easier if he hadn't bothered. We had a my family christening yesterday. I had previously bought a new baby gift so only gave an item and no cash. I felt bad but we don't have it this month and I'm not going to do it anymore.
Anyhow need to get a wiggle on. Today I am grateful for

You really dont need to go to the wedding if you dont want too.

I agree with Beanie. People went to my sister's wedding who didn't come to mine. I wasn't offended. Everyone's in different situations."Good financial planning is about not spending money on things that add no value to your life in order to have more money for the things that do". Eoin McGee1

Ah but there is a lot of family politics going on. We are the only mother of the bride siblings invited as both the bride and her mother have issues with treatment from the rest of the family. If we don't go, no one goes.
So, on other news, I'm shattered. I've been on site full time with a client this week while trying to juggle the needs of others. It isn't good. Also whichever pollen triggers my hay fever is definitely on the up. I can cope with the sneezes but the irritable eyes bother me.
The pluses are I got a cheque on Monday which has been safely lodged to the business account. I also called into a&da last night after dropping dd into work as we needed bread. Five different breads were available at 10p each so the freezer has been fed and some of the whoopsied speciality m&s sausages from the weekend have been taken from the freezer for tonight.
Today I am grateful for
