  • Thanks to you all for your positive wishes. Only 2 rl people know that I am diabetic and 1 is of no use at all. The other is my dh who will be joining me next Saturday to start the 8 week and rest of our lives programme.

Yesterday went so much better than expected. Circumstances conspired to get me seen by my actual consultant for a decent time slot as the person who should have had the slot before me was tied up with the dieticians. The blood sugar diet does not accord with nhs guidance so she can’t formally recommend it. She did say that if she ever had a diagnosis, it’s the route she would take. There is no value in engagement with the dieticians as their guidance is at odds with it. She did say that she’d been following the research out of professional interest and that there’s no reason to doubt the outcomes reported.
She reviewed my meds, identified when reductions would be appropriate and to which ones. I now have a roadmap. I also have an appointment on 10th to pick up a new blood sugar monitor that will assist my managing my drugs.

After my appointment, I met dh for lunch and then came home and crashed. I’m to be reviewed in 3 months in theory. I say that as yesterday was 51 weeks from my last appointment that was also supposed to be a 3 month review.
I’m now worried that I may not have the will power to stick with this. However I’m looking at it that any day I stick with this approach is a day when I’m not doing further damage to myself. There should also be a hefty reduction in our food bills and some reductions in food waste. This could be offset, and then some, by a clothes shopping habit I could develop if weight loss means I can access clothes that I want as opposed to need to buy. There are however a number already here waiting for me to shrink into them. I’m thinking of hanging one item on the back of the bathroom door to incentivise me.

In other news, I picked dd up at the airport shortly after 10 last night. She’s on the five to seven flight back on Monday morning by when the Christmas tree should be chopped up ready for burning and all decorations should be put away.
I still feel like I’ve been through a wringer having had a bad night last night probably because of sleeping so much yesterday. I now however also see a possibility rather than only seeing fear. Today I am so grateful for

The concern, support and good wishes from all here.

  • Pleased it wasn't as bad as you thought. There's a lot of diabetes in mine and OHs family so it's something we are both very aware of. One of them was diagnosed with maturity onset years ago and warded it off through very healthy eating and a serious focus on vegetables until her 70s. She did the blood sugar diet before it existed and swears by it.

INOD - we will all be rooting for you. Have seen some programmes on it and the results are amazing. Come here for support if you are struggling xx
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Fantastic INOD! The great thing is that if you follow it you'll see results really quickly and that's great for motivation; nothing succeeds like success.
I dare say you'll feel better quite soon too and having your oh follow it too should make it easier. I still stick with the principles mostly as does my oh but I sometimes encourage him to cheat when I'm not looking/around in case he might otherwise give up!
All my best wishes for a healthier 2019.

I’m convinced the blood sugar diet will be good for you. Many many moons ago both my dh and myself worked at a local hospital cooking for folk on special diets. We were only saying the other week how they put folk with diabetes straight on medication these days whereas that used to be a last resort. Hang on in there - you can do it.
