So why are Labour denying that they are thinking about a Land Value Tax? It is right there on page 86 of their manifesto. Not only would it tax gardens, it would also tax farmland which would put up the price of food. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

TBH I really wouldn't take too much notice of social media - there has been huge amounts written about the folly of relying too much on echo chambers from the experiences of 2015.
I don't, I'm just saying what I've seen. I've seen other things in the real world (such as the other 2 people mentioned) too.
As I've stated several times, I don't think my constituency or those neighbouring it are representative of the country though, and I've explained why.My Facebook is almost exclusively consisting of left wingers spouting off. My wife is incredibly embarrassed I have just taken to FB to try and get a little conservative input on there. Feels really awkward and incongruous.
Depends who you follow.Tories aren't blabber mouths and quietly go about their day and this clearly ties in with lefties being far more vocally intrusive in all of the TV audience debates and shows. Same as lefties ransacking American Universities protesting against right wing speakers such as Milo or lefties out in protest following Trumps victory. If Clinton had won you wouldn't have seen mass protest by the right
I don't sit on the left. A lot of the time I sit centre-right, but only just to the right.
I follow the right wing economic policies, and the left wing social policies largely. I voted Conservative in 2015. My vote really could go to anyone in most elections, however on balance, this one is an exception, although that isn't driven by any one issue, several have guided me to vote the way I will.
I'm suspicious I haven't been able to get a straight answer from a Conservative-led police force this afternoon regarding armed police officers in 2010 vs now, being told it's an FOI request. We all know we won't have the answers on that before Thursday, so there seems little point in trying.💙💛 💔0 -
It's tight. Very very tight. So tight!
You couldn't get a finger in there at the moment.0 -

Is there some reason why people who own lots of valuable land shouldn't pay more tax?
Less than 1% of the population own half the rural land in England and Wales. A literal tax free land grab by the upper classes.
As horrific as this sounds to the Right, at some point someone is going to have to pay tax. The difference between Labour and the Tories is that Labour thinks that people with money should pay it, rather than people who are poor.0 -

Maybe we need another 300 to 400 Universities scattered throughout the North and Wales?
I'll make sure I let comrade Corbyn know. He can get Diane to do the pricing, to ensure we can bring it in under £500 plus lunch money.0 -

Council tax should be paid according to usage, a farmer has many acres of land, does not mean he is rich, and this would put up the price of food.
So you would be happy with one person living on that farm, paying farm hands to work on that land, only using the council services occasionally, paying many many times more than a household of 4 people using the services that 4 people use? Doesn't matter if they are rich or poor, that cannot be right or fair. Especially if that causes the farmer to have to sell off the land for houses. I know labour would rather have the housing for the refugees all over every inch of our green and pleasant land, but we need food.
Anyway, why are Labour denying this, call it whatever you will it is still a garden tax as people with gardens have more land.
Of course I see why Labour would want this, they would relish a house price crash, they don't like people owning anything for themselves let alone houses where they can control nothing within. A house price crash would mean many, many families being in negative equity, increasing the risk of repossession with ongoing costs to pay back the rest of the mortgage. This would mean they were quite probably forced into social housing, government would buy up the houses cheap and so on.
Don't forget the last thing labour want is aspiration, people wanting to better themselves, cant have that. What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0 -

They need the money.
I feel confident that their personal tax rises won't raise the projections, nor the corporate tax rises.
It's still quite hard to hide a house and garden (though I'm working on it).0 -

Corbyn types are blind to the fact huge numbers of 'poor' certainly aren't poor. Been seeing this all my working life. There's more to injustice than the naïve social justice warrior thinks there is.0
