Does anyone else here think that the format of the "Show" is utterly useless? There was little real debate there with constant interrupts and with good points and good challenges alike being lost in an orgy of soundbites and petty insults.
This is correct. 7 people is too many to have a proper debate.
The difficulty is that in that format people need to use soundbites or they become invisible.
To be fair, Corbyn requested a leaders' debate with just him and Theresa May. But Theresa May declined. The Tories have dodged any form of proper discussion or scrutiny throughout this campaign.0 -
Her excuse about wanting to meet voters is just that - an excuse.
Have to laugh at the hypocrisy of the Labour supporters slagging May for not turning up after Corbyn himself didn't turn up at the first debate.
May refused to appear because the general perception is the current PM / current favourite has little to gain by debating with the outsiders.
Corbyn in turn refused to debate with the others the first time for the identical reasons: as opposition leader / 2nd favourite he viewed it that he had little to gain by debating with the even bigger outsiders.
He fully intended to dodge this debate too & only changed his mind at the last minute because the trend in the polls suggested that might be the better strategy on the day. Especially so because at that stage it became a win/win for Labour; Either May refuses to appear & they slag her off for that, or she does appear & they slag her off for being the queen of the U-Turn.
So please don't bore us with all this crap about duty to appear in debates etc etc. May & Corbyn are playing the identical game, all of it is election strategy pure & simple, and nothing within a million miles of caring whether the public get to see them debate.0 -

I'm no fan of Torys but the all people who keep bringing up the growth of national debt under the Torys achieve is to highlight there own lack of knowledge.
That is a very good point.
They should concentrate on
20,000 LESS Policeman
Lack of SUFFICIENT funding for the NHS
Lack of SUFFICIENT funding for Schools
Lack of SUFFICIENT funding of Prisons and Staff in Prisons
The GROWTH in the number of people using food banks
The GROWTH in the number of people homeless.
And most important the Tories actually think everything is OK.
In the debate last night Amber Rudd said she had been to visit a food bank. Did anyone think that was true? It might be but does she sound like someone who had done so.There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0 -
Personally I only found it moderately convincing but if you think it was very convincing then fair enough.
As a piece of research into bias I didn't think it was convincing in any what whatsoever. I'm still pushing for MSE to introduce a sarcasm smilie.
Mind you it's better than Conrad's research that concluded the audience clapped in a left wing manner. Boris Johnson (he's been let out of his box for the day) also concluded he'd never seen such a left wing audience although that doesn't surprise me.0 -

Just to point out if every citizen only spent what they earned (no credit) then we would be in permanent recession, borrowing keeps the economy moving.
All money eventually trickles to the rich, so the only way to keep things moving is to inject new money into the economy which is why we have constant inflation.
Oh my days....what economics book is that from?
Is that Fake Economics?
Funny that.
So why isn't the German economy in recession?German budget surplus highest since 1990British savers put to shame by the Germans,

I was out & didn't see any of it but I skimmed the Guardian reaction page on the grounds it would paint the Tories as badly as possible. Even on there one of the featured tweets was from somebody saying it was the most biased audience they'd ever seen on a debate.
It might be on catchup. There will be no Brexit dividend for Britain.0
