I thought I wasn't imagining things:
In 2001 the law was changed so that speed cameras had to be painted yellow to ensure visibility. Many other rules were also brought in regarding speed cameras.
"The regulations decree that:
speed camera housings must be coloured yellow
camera housings cannot be obscured, e.g. by trees, bushes or signs
cameras must be visible from 60m away in 40mph or less zones and 100m for all other speed limit zones
signs must only be placed in areas where camera housings are located or where mobile cameras are in operation
in order to make them visible, mobile speed camera operators must wearing fluorescent clothing, and their vehicles should be marked with reflective strips
camera sites are to be reviewed at least every six months in order to ensure that cameras are adequately visible and signed."
I don't think the device the OP is talking about is a camera though.
On the main road through our town, the police occasionally stand with a hand held speed detector/radar gun. There are no road signs to warn you of this.
Couple of miles along the road, a camera van sometimes sits in a layby. There are signs warning you of speed cameras on the approach to the layby.0 -
I know I was doing 35 mph so just have to wait for letter now
.
Putting aside the moral/ethical/whatever arguments - and I'm in no way condoning speeding at all ...
But if your speedo was showing 35, it's more than likely you were actually doing something like 33. At that speed it's unlikely you'd get a ticket. I'm not saying it's impossible, but it's highly likely you'll have got away with it.
Pay more attention in future0 -

I tried Google. I can find no regulations hence I'm asking as you know about them.0 -
The usual practise is for the officer with the gun to only note the blatant speeders, and radio to his mates in the lay-by ahead to activate pursuit mode and pull them over to issue a ticket.
If you are in the middle of a flock, you should be alright, like shooting ducks, they don't get them all, just the first or the last one.
If they want to nick everybody fractionally over the limit they use a tallivan and send out all the NIPs by post.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

35 is within the 10% + 2 threshold, not sure if all police forces go by that though

I tried Google. I can find no regulations hence I'm asking as you know about them. You can't find them because you're looking for a non-existent needle in a haystack full of needle look-alikes.

But as already mentioned by others, if the officer checking the speed was only using a laser gun and not a mobile camera, no warnings need be given.
Even if there was a camera and there were no warnings given, there is also this:However, if you’re caught by a speed camera which falls short of the rules, this will not be considered a defence against a speeding charge.0 -

That's not a primary source, though, and it earns the owner money via ads. Most of these are owned by law firms who want people to engage them to represent them.0 -

Did you miss the bit that states: The presence of speed cameras can also be indicated with road signs, but this is not a legal requirement?0
