Was driving back from Whitby after a nice day and so where many others.

Loads of traffic flowing by.

All traveling steady 35 / 40 mph

Went around a bend a sign says 30 and straight after it a police van but the cop was holding a camera / speed gun I didn't have time to react it was so quick I didn't even know what he was doing at first until after I realised.

He must have pretty much caught thousands of cars as we where all together at a steady 35 / 40 .

I do t know the rules on speed traps . I guess they don't need to warm you.

I know I was doing 35 mph so just have to wait for letter now

Hope it's speed course or just a fine. Don't want points.

I feel it was unfair and targeted as they knew it would be busy after a hot day !

Not happy.

Targeted at people breaking the speed limit you mean?

It's just a waiting game just now.

Speeding is optional. We all know what happens if we're caught so can't really blame anyone but ourselves if it happens.

If he was holding the camera, unless he stopped you and served you a ticket, you got away with it.
Only a camera van or fixed speed cameras send NIP by post.
I do Contracts, all day every day.

    ...

Presumably they targeted that section of road as it is somewhere where a lot of people break the speed limit - there is little point in targeting roads where speeding is not common.

Its been some years since I was last in Whitby but I remember the wekends around easter were always a speedtrap bonanza on attractive/popular roads and places in Yorkshire.

So even on the bike, I took it very easy. ;)

A "steady" 35/40 or speeding at 35/40? I hope he did catch "thousands" of people. It might improve their driving.

What's unfair about it? You acknowledge you were speeding. Is it ok to speed on a hot day now?

It sounds as if you won't hear any more about it, but I hope the anxiety is something you remember when you choose to follow the herd and speed on a hot day.
  • I thought that where a speed trap was in use, there had to be at least one warning sign visible prior to the trap, either a permanent display or one placed there temporarily.

Or maybe, like your speedometer, you missed seeing it.

Nope, no warning signs are required.

I don't have any sympathy for people who drive everywhere at 40mph.
