Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. Hi Jacko
welcome to the OS board
We do have a thread on KFC style chicken which should help and a choccie brownie thread . I was going to make brownies recently for a friends birthday but i made chocolate fudge cake instead. I decided bringing out a plate of brownies compared to bringing out a cake would have more impact but maybe thats just meDepend on who you are making it/them for
We also have a birthday cake thread which should help and OS party food
let us know what you decide and we will merge this later on

Come on, play the game! What you gonna make?!?! !
The first cake i made was a carrot cake - no skill required. The only real skill required in baking is measuring and following instructions. The hardest thing about the carrot cake was grating the carrot - and I used a food processor!
There are all in one cake recipes too. Do you have a food processor?

Here is a 'cheat' for KFC 'style' chicken.
use chicken thighs for preference - cheaper, they cook in approx the same amount of time and more importantly TASTE better than breast.
now - allow 3 portions per person plus a couple over for the greedy ones.
get your production line set up.
first dish
Flour (this is where the flavour is added and pared down to basics you need
4 oz Plain flour,2 teaspoons of Garlic powder or granules, half a teaspoon of Onion powder or granules (both in jars from the supermarket) . half teaspoon of Salt and a good pinch or grinding of Pepper. mix this thoroughly. If you have some you can add a pinch of Paprika or Cayenne Pepper!
second dish
Egg wash - to ONE egg add 100mil of milk and about a half that of water. (you will immediately think its not thick enough - but trust me it works! this will do about 6 - 7 peices of chicken!
now comes the trick - dip each peice of chicken in the FLOUR mix and coat it - then dip in the egg mix and coat it - Then dip it back into the FLOUR mix and put on a baking sheet
do all the others. now put the chicken in the fridge for at least half an hour - I usually deep fry them at 150C until nicely golden and test one by cutting into it to make sure its thoroughly cooked. note how long it took to cook and if they are all same size you can just cook to that timing. keep the cooked ones warm in a low oven.
hope this helps0 -
Thank you so much for the recipe
I made a brownie today, but it took 2 hours to cook instead of half an hour and now has gone rock hardCross trainer fund- £21.0 -
brownies are still supposed to be a bit wet when it comes out of the oven to give the gooey texture, if the one you have cooked is too hard you could serve it as chocolate cake and custard0

Brownie sundaes - yum!! Crumble up your brownies, serve them in bowls with icecream and some toffee sauce or something. And a bit of squirty cream on top - yummy!!
If you're a bit short on time and you can nip to Tescos you can buy a pack of 24 plain fairy cakes that you can then make the icing on with some sprinkles and some candles it would make a lovely. I reckon, it will probably be £3-£4?
If you like the idea ask for an icing recipe and we can suggest a couple of ideas0 -
Couple of things i always make to any party, buffet, bbq.....
Cucumber and tomato salad
Peel and dice a whole cucumber into 1cm chunks. Chop around 4-6 tomatoes into chunks of simular size or uses halved cherry toms. Finely slice 1/2 a red onion mixed into a bowl and add a dressing of equal parts olive oil and balsamic vinager, blended with a little salt and black pepper. You need just enough dressing to lightly cover. You can also add a little chopped herbs such as parlsey, chives or basil. To make it a greek style salad and some chunks of feta and black olives.
It's a lovely summer salad and it's great to serve with fish.
No Mayo - Potato salad
Boil or steam 1kg of new potatoes till tender. Melt some butter {don't over heat - as soon as it's melted take it of the heat}. add a equal measure of olive oil to the butter along with 2/3 tbs of finely chopped fresh herbs, i used parsley and chives. Along with 2 sliced spring onions and a little salt and pepper to taste.
Mix herb butter/oil with the potatoes and serve hot or cold.
I know my recipes are hardly food masterpieces, or upmarket grub, but sometimes simple recipes and tastes are the best, for me anyhow:D.0
