Couple of things i always make to any party, buffet, bbq.....
Cucumber and tomato salad
Peel and dice a whole cucumber into 1cm chunks. Chop around 4-6 tomatoes into chunks of simular size or uses halved cherry toms. Finely slice 1/2 a red onion mixed into a bowl and add a dressing of equal parts olive oil and balsamic vinager, blended with a little salt and black pepper. You need just enough dressing to lightly cover. You can also add a little chopped herbs such as parlsey, chives or basil. To make it a greek style salad and some chunks of feta and black olives.
It's a lovely summer salad and it's great to serve with fish.
No Mayo - Potato salad
Boil or steam 1kg of new potatoes till tender. Melt some butter {don't over heat - as soon as it's melted take it of the heat}. add a equal measure of olive oil to the butter along with 2/3 tbs of finely chopped fresh herbs, i used parsley and chives. Along with 2 sliced spring onions and a little salt and pepper to taste.
Mix herb butter/oil with the potatoes and serve hot or cold.
I know my recipes are hardly food masterpieces, or upmarket grub, but sometimes simple recipes and tastes are the best, for me anyhow:D.
I love new potatoes drenched in real butter! in fact they are on the menu tonight - and I will be doing your no mayo potato salad instead! sounds like a masterpiece to me! I never thought of mixing the butter with olive oil!0 -

Hi was hoping one of you lovely people would be able to help me come up with a recipe. I’ve been invited to a baby shower this weekend and have been asked to bring some food (nibblely bits, sweet or savory) I could of course buy something but I’d like to impress (a bit not the best cook!) with something home made. I’d like to stay MSE with the cost, but also make something yummy!
Any ideas would be fab, thanks0 -
How about these cake pops? You can use cheap cakes to make them, and if you can find some pink and blue ribbon to tie around the sticks, they look like baby's rattles too.
ETA: Sainsburys have BBQ skewers that are reduced that would make perfect sticks for them.Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things.I married Moon 8/4/2011, baby boy born 26/9/2012, Angel Baby Poppy born 8/11/15, Rainbow baby boy born 11/2/20170 -

Hello!
I hope I'm posting this in the right place...I'm throwing a surprise joint 50th birthday party for my parents next month and have family and friends coming from all over the country. I want to make it the kind of party my parents would have planned for themselves if they were able to afford it...problem is my budget is not as big as I would have liked.
I wondered if anyone had any ideas for a classy party buffet on a tight budget? So far I'm making quiches and am going to cook 2 whole salmons as i know a lot of the guests like them, and they will make good centrepieces.
Any other ideas are very welcome!
Thanks in advance!
