This one keeps appearing on the edge of our current search area. Can afford to buy it but can't run to the restoration costs. Just can't help thinking the potential (even with the Gr II listing) is so huge ...

That has SO much potential. It also, however, has the potential to be an absolute moneypit so I can see your hesitation.

My property tracker app thing tells me that the price has recently gone up from £275k to £310, how do they work that one out?

How on earth did a house that was (presumably) being maintained up to the central heating era (cue for I've spotted the radiators there) get to be so blimmin' awful?

But it could indeed be nice - with a heck of a lot of work and expenditure of money/

    Three reasons - cold, midges.......

The climate's perfect for strawberries though! And midges aren't bad in Perth, or any of the big towns.

Without midges the country would be overrun with tourists - they're our secret defence to keep the land untouched and wild!

Houses can go downhill pretty quick, if they aren't maintained.

We looked at a house last year, fully refubished in 2010. It had been on the market for 3 years, and was cheap so we went to look and it was in a complete mess. Every window pane was cloudy, damp everywhere, collapsing chimney breast, kitchen wrecked. Worse still outside the beautiful patio had a massive subsidence issue (which we suspected extended to the house) and was cracked and uneven. You can still see the pictures from when it sold after being refurbished and it was like a different house. Such a shame that people will let their most valuable asset depreciate in such a way.

We put in a VERY low offer (we like a project :rotfl:), citing the condition and it is still on the market now. Its been on with at least 3 agents, with the price slipping down slightly every time.

Just saw the most gorgeous house advertised. If only they'd be selling it with all the furniture. It's a perfect size too, nothing ridiculous. It's a town location rather than rural, and being in a more open plot with views is surely the only way it could be made any better.

Crivens! Who does the aerial photography up there; the Wright Brothers and Fox Talbot?

    Agree about the house though.

I think the presence of Faslane military base prevents helensburgh being fully googlified. Can't stop wishing my house looked like that!
