Drooling over houses I love but can't afford

  • I can't easily quote on my mobile but for me it's more that it's detached.
My plan is to move over 100 miles away from where I am currently so I'll have a better quality of life (office closing within 5 years moving us to central London, don't fancy commuting into London until I'm old)

I've seen some lovely places I'd happily do up, after all I'm happy with a 2 to 3 bed. Garden garage and preferably end of terrace/semi detached.
One day I'll get there and until then I'll be looking at all the properties dreaming I could move now!

I think this is the best one on this thread so far!! What a dream house - how do houses like that end up so dilapidated and unloved?! Its fabulous!

So many of the others - especially the Radlett ones are so cold and soulless - I don't think even if I had that kind of money - I would entertain those white, glass and tile places. I just cant imagine them being a 'home' - the Derry one though I adore.

What about this one - very chocolate box

South facing garden but I don't think the roof is suitable for solar panels...

Eek, is it just me or does anyone else find that Derry house a bit creepy? Do I spy 2 AGAs though? (sorry, banging on about AGAs again, twice in one thread. Think I may have a minor obsession :rotfl:)

We were just saying how creepy it looks. Particularly the pic with small room with the fireplace in the corner. Half expected to see a face staring back at me lol

I have always fancied a house with a water view. Thanks OP I have just spent time drooling over waterside properties. Here is one I quite fancy:

I end up drooling over simple properties too! Looking at moving in 3 to 5 years but think this type will be slightly out of my budget!

This will probably be more like what I get

Why not make a cheeky offer on the house you like when you're ready to buy? My daughter and her partner liked a property which was over their budget but would not view because of that. I told them to view it and if they liked it to offer what they could afford which was £20,000 under asking price and it was accepted!

Everyone's happy, if you don't ask you don't get. :)
  • Thanks Mrsjam
Oh I'll probably try it but I've also got the fun of selling my flat, trying to get work sorted (transferring to different departments or maybe see if I can work from home x days a week) and buying so I'm going to have fun once I've saved enough money! Just hope the markets here and there don't change too much... Well mine can increase all it wants but preferably they don't too!!

I'd guess anywhere that starts with 'Fail' would be less desirable.

It's like Twerton in Bath. It is very like it sounds! :rotfl:

Just to put things in perspective; Failsworth, is a good area to live in.

Good transport links to Manchester and Oldham City Centre's.

    Good shopping, Tesco and Aldi.

    Also, good schools.

People I've come across are very friendly and most people take pride in their surroundings.

There are some run down places in Oldham, this is not one of them.

I don't doubt that for a minute. I was just commenting that the posher areas of places usually have names that reflect the fact somehow, just by the way they sound, while the poorer areas may have quite weird names. Take another area of Bath: Odd Down.(although it's somewhat mixed and nowhere in Bath is exactly cheap!) Hasn't got the same ring as Audley Park or Lansdown, has it?.

But to be blunt, I wouldn't wish to live in most of the up-market places linked to on this thread. Take the Salcombe one; in the same county as me, but a world away in so many respects from my much cheaper area, noted for its friendliness, relaxed pace, low crime figures etc. We might not be convenient and trendy, but there's a a great sense of community, which isn't always found in the expensive boating and holiday locations, with their lock up and leave properties and seasonally changing populations.

    Nice for a holiday....

The thing for me is...the one's I drool over are the dooer uppers....

theres nothing better than seeing something that is totally unloved and looking at it with vision.
The ones that are done have little or no appeal to me...I would much prefer to create it as I want.

    Dream on...
