Will you buy a diesel car now?
Options
In relation to recent news of taxing diesel cars extra to enter many town centers, when you change car next time, will you consider a diesel?
Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.

A lot of this is press hysteria. The original story is not exciting enough so the headlines exaggerate it. For example if you are buying a new diesel or even one a year or two old it is very likely they will not be beset by this fee but it suits the press to scream about all diesels. By the time the scheme is launched (if it is) even more diesels will be ok. I might not buy a six year old diesel now.0

I hardly ever drive in town centres so no great problem about having another diesel0

Passenger seats in my car are hardly ever populated, but that doesn't mean I'd ride a mopedThe seats are there for 5% exceptional cases.

At the moment I have a petrol as I don't do many miles so a diesel doesn't suit however if my circumstances change and diesel would be better then I would change back to diesel. Also I buy my cars second hand so I'm limited to what's on the market and right now for larger cars, they're largely diesel - looking at Superb Estates in Elegance spec there's 4 petrols and 140 diesels for sale. For that reason I may end up with a diesel if I liked the rest of the car.

I have a diesel now, my first ever - I ONLY bought a diesel as we were told they were better, fuel was cheaper, etc... so I went with the "advised item" and not the petrol that I'd have known/liked/understood....
Next time it's definitely petrol for me though. I was lied to/ripped off, then sent up the river without a paddle.
This car's 11 years old, so not sure when I'll get another, hopefully 5+ years.0 -
My wife's car is about six years old. 1-series diesel. We were looking to change vehicles but have to work out what's best. She does a decent commute (45 mins each way, at least 30 mins of extra-urban driving) but now wants an SUV.
Me - I'm sticking to my petrol engines.0 -
As I have a company car I will replace it with a diesel as a diesel will cost me less in come tax. I will only change to a petrol if it becomes advantageous to do so from a tax viewpoint.
However, if I were buying my own car I would probably go for a petrol.0 -

If you are looking for the lowest tax rates then plug in hybrid would be the way to go.
Can't answer poll, as my next car will be a PHEV or full electric.0
