Miserable day today .Havent been out the door.
It's just been crates and more crates . I was gonna ask James to move wardrobe into my main bedroom ( assisted by me ).
It weighs a ton , so it's staying put . Looking for somewhere to store the vinyl. The way I feel, now , is if I should offload that and also my seperates and get a decent soundbar instead .
It would be cheaper to run an all in one / soundbar system than seperates . You only have to look at the plugs for that .

I'm still stiff all over, but am determined to get to the gym .
James is around about 9am tomorrow . There's not much left for him to do .need to press on with the crates , starting properly tomorrow
    I'll get there .

You seem to have an awful lot of music equipment and stuff AC.

My husband used to be a DJ many years ago but got rid of vinyl and replaced with electronic mpg files. We rarely even play cds these days. My most used music gadget is my ipod and Bluetooth speaker. My car radio does not even have a cd slot now - just a usb port or I can Bluetooth from my ipod. Most smart tvs play radio and we have a very basic sky package which includes a few music channels.

The vinyl collection was much bigger than now :)
Over the last few years, I was mainly listening to my iPhone with noise reducing headphones . Always buy cds, then convert to iTunes .
I just don't buy much new stuff these days .
I wired up my tv to my stereo in the living room a couple of weeks ago and it sounds great . No remote control for the '80s amp so I can do with the excercise :) So it comes down to space. What I may do is buy most of the stuff on I tunes (12" singles that may have been reissued ) and sell vinyl on eBay . This week will be a long one

I think Enthusiastic makes a valid point, you seem to be quite overwhelmed with "stuff". In fact it appears to be taking over your life. You speak of little else and you hardly seem to set foot outside of your door because you are too busy moving stuff around and curating your possessions.

You are missing the summer - today was glorious and you were stuck indoors. :o

Sell your vinyl, and those separates, the amp, make some money.

We sold our vinyl collection a few years ago now and made quite a bit. Some of the albums were collectors items and quite valuable......but we never played them. The sound quality was abysmal anyway.

I know it seems hard at first to let things go, you are after all saying goodbye to your past when you say goodbye to your possessions but isn't that what this move was all about.........Starting over, getting a new life.

Vinyl records, Amps you will probably never use, all those boxed files of paperwork........let it go, allow your flat to breathe.

Clear the clutter and give yourself space to live and grow.

And get out in that fresh sea air whilst you can .......

    ...."winter is coming" ;)

Thanks LL:) Great insight once again ;)
It's a good job I'm more of a winter person( or was when I was in London :))
I think a lot of it is because after a month in this flat , most of my stuff is still in crates . The main reason for that of course , is because of very little storage . I will however be able to put stuff away this week as I have a wardrobe / sideboard / chest of drawers at long last so less time procrastinating and getting on with it .

Music is my only hobby really . I'm moaning about the vinyl etc
Also going on about my seperates etc . However , bizarrely enough the alcove where my tv etc is situated is perfect for everything .
As I've not gone the expensive route , it's the wires that are a slight irritant . I will get cable tidys and sort them out .
If James puts the tv bracket on the wall, then I'll have a bit more space to play with.

I haven't picked up my basses for months because of the upheaval .
I was thinking of having the wardrobe moved into my bedroom.
Trouble is , it would mean my bed being in a different position .
I tried sleeping in that position and for some reason it didn't feel right
Strange really . So it means I've compromised space in my spare room and have slightly less space than Anticipated .

Seems weird also that I stopped playing in bands in the mid '90s
    I had just 2 basses.
Then when I was 40 one of my best mates convinced me to have another birthday gig and then I got too carried away and lots of basses. I played in a few bands but now ( try to ) record stuff on soundcloud for a blast . Via computer of course .
Now that one of my friends has got the ball rolling for a meet up, I hope to have things put away by the next weeek or so.

The 10,000 box files will be gone soon . I'll have to get a shredder and sort that out asap. One of the side effects in keeping my head in the sand financially for years
  • Don't forget that you don't need to buy all the music in a new format before making a start on selling the vinyl. You could make a list of all the albums/tracks you want to repurchase on itunes and do it slowly over the next few months :)
Once you start selling it is addictive, I bet you'd ind it much easier to empty some of those boxes once you get bitten by the selling bug!

Good luck with Payplan today, I remembered that you were going to discuss the settlement offer.

    Re all that paperwork....

Don't know if you have one but there is an outfit near us who does shredding on a commercial scale. They supply you with a large yellow bag which you fill and then they shred the contents for you. They charge £5 per bag.

Might be better if you have a lot to do. My friend did this. He was self employed and had years and years worth of paperwork for his business. He said it was overwhelming. It cost him £15 and he said it was worth every penny.

Cheap shredders don't last 5 minutes and are really slow and frustrating. Ok for a few bits once a week or so but useless for large quantities.
  • Thanks folks :)
Payplan haven't got back to me yet . When they do, I'll keep you updated .
James couldn't make it today , but will be here tomorrow to finish off a few things . I've asked him to put up some more shelving also .
It will hold the box files for now and will be handy when the boxfiles are no more .
True what you say about shredders LL :)
True what you say about replacing the vinyl Georgina :)
I'll have to make a start on unpacking later.
Looks like I'm due a visit around 21/22 July , so I have to get on with it.

Went to the gym and did a basic session . Getting there was hard work and the same coming home . I will be there tomorrow .

We bought one of those outdoor patio heaters - not the electric kind, but the kind you burn logs in - it has not stood up the weather. We used it once to cook some bread in and now its just stood in the corner a complete waste - but DH has now found a new use for it - he uses it to burn all our confidential waste.

    Good idea :)
