When we were in Swanage a few weeks ago, I noticed the housewares shop had a couple of incinerators. One was the normal dustbin size, but the other one was a little dinky one, the size of a waste paper basket. That would be ideal for burning paperwork, although I don't know if the rules in your lease would allow you to use the garden for that.
Might be worth checking out though.

AC - what about starting to clear and organise one room at a time? Maybe start with either your bedroom or the sitting room. Then at least you will have one room that is sorted and you feel happy when you are in there.

Well, I unpacked the clothes from the move ..and 90+% have gone into black bags. There are about 16 crates left , mainly of wires , ornaments and god knows what .my friend has got large film posters and I have 3 frames that he wants . Hopefully by the end of the week i will have all the unpacking and will have achieved something

Hey AC! Sorry I haven't dropped in for a while, work and house has all been a bit crazy. We're having the bathrooms done and it's dragging on a bit! Into 4th week now and sick to death of the house being upside down so I know how you feel. We also still have a few unpacked boxes in the spare room from our move 7 months ago. Guess what of? Music and books! Must be something in the water.

I was reminded yesterday that we didn't unpack the kitchen for ages until getting a nudge (telling off!) from the MIL. Felt so much better when it was done and it actually didn't take long. You seem to be very worried about where things should go rather than just unpacking. I'd agree to take one room at a time. Get somewhere sorted that you really like. Living in a mess and clutter can be quite depressing.

I'm wondering whether a smaller wardrobe to go in the bedroom would help? Did James make the other one or was it a flat pack? If you've spent a
a fair bit on it then leave it where you find it most useful and comfortable and don't worry anymore about where it should/shouldn't go. It's not nailed to the wall and can be moved any time. I think you are distracting yourself with should/shouldn't I move things/sell things/buy more things. Just unpack it all then consider that later. You love your music, just get it put away for now and you can easily decide what to do later (in winter!!) when your head is more clear and you know exactly how much space you have and what your priorities are. A very wise person once told me to do nothing big in a new house (and that includes selling your hobby imo!) until you've lived in it for a while and get a feel for how the space actually works for you. You're letting yourself get distracted by trivial matters. Unpack. Get comfy. Then decide if you really do need more space etc etc. I think if you start selling your music collection you will spend far too much time and money on replacing it all for a digital copy and distracting yourself from the immediate task in hand!

Paperwork on the other hand. Chuck it out! If you've not needed it in the last year get rid. LL's idea sounds perfect.

    Good luck!

  • Hi copperjar
Great to hear from you again . :) Sorry to hear that you are in a similar position . You'll get there . I thin in my case , now I've finally got storage of sorts, I'm beginning to use it . Feel much better now that the clothing has been tackled . It's true what you say about everything . I think the main thing that's been eating at me , is that one of my other close friends wants to crash over in July and has made a big thing of it . No problem but it means I was almost flapping about it . Now that I've been able to finally get things moving , I should be ready to accommodate him when he visits .

Sorry to hear about the bathroom . I was lucky that James had it done. In just over 2 weeks . As you can see, I've clung onto him for a while . People are beginning to talk :)
He bought the furniture flat packed and assembled it .
I will see daylight eventually and things will go ..somewhere :)
As you say, I've just not got to get hung up on anything and move on :)
  • Today , I had to force myself out of bed :) went to bed arounf 12.30 am . Woke up 6.30 fell asleep and got out around 7am
Had to tidy up mess from yesterday for James to do his business.

So James turns up around 9.30 . I managed to head for the gym around 10.15 after wearing him out . I gave him an additional couple of jobs for whenever. One of those, he managed to do today .
It was a cupboard he converted into shelves . I had an idea that maybe he could hang an attachment I got for an ironing board and iron into that cupboard and move the shelves up so I can fit dyson/ broom etc in there as well . He's done a great job . I didn't think it possible that it could be done , but he's done a great Job.
He will be making me a small drinks cabinet for the kitchen also.
Hanging my basses on the wall is another job .
All his jobs should be finished by the end of the week.

As I say , went to the gym . Can't do tomorrow ( or the next 4 weds) as I have dental appointments . Not a bad thing as it could be more clammy tomorrow . The worst thing for me at the moment is after I've done the excercise, I'm still sweating . Not good . I'll get there :)

Outside my window , I notice one of my upstairs neighbours has decided to trim the bushes outside my window . I don't mind . Saves me doing it . As I've only been here a few weeks I'm a little confused though . When I was going back and forth painting the flat while living around the corner , I notice on 2 occasions a man probably from the mgt company trimming the bushes . I assumed that he would be around to do it . Maybe he'll be back in a few weeks time . Maybe he is due and my neighbour decided he is overdue . I did put my shoes on and was gonna ask her , but she disappeared . She's back again.
I may ask her . She's not totally standoffish . Not totally friendly .
I'll find out more eventually :)
