Why on earth do you need 20000 box files?:rotfl:

Most of our bills are now paperless so very little paperwork beyond the usual - tax coding notices, passports, payslips and any contracts we have signed for services so we know when they expire. The rest is saved on our laptops (and backed up on a portable hard drive). I keep manuals and guarantees for equipment and appliances and those take up 2 box files. Our safe holds all our personal and private stuff to do with investments and banking in one folder and our passports, birth certificates/marriage certificates etc etc.

Can you go through these box files and decide if you really need all this stuff? Old pension statements are no good for keeping, I just keep the current ones and shred the old ones. My brother used to keep all of this old stuff until I said just get rid of old electricity/gas bills or scan them if you really want to keep them and just keep current bills, statements or go paperless.

Everything you say is spot on :)
I will be doing exactly what say asap . Will get a cheap, scanner and go for it . :)

Spoke to my sisters today. They were in the slug and lettuce pub in London Bridge when it was all kicking off last night .
They say that the police were fantastic .
Looking at the news last night and now, it does look like the police were nothing short of awesome in dealing with everything .
  • So I've just looked at Poole website regarding waste / recycling collection. It's fortnightly :mad:
I know I mentioned here yesterday that I 'disposed ' of a few items .
I just looked again and everything is totally ram. Not happy .

On the website, it says £30 charge for large item , plus £6 for another item not so large etc . Total robbery . The website does not even mention glass panes or mirror glass, except that it doesn't take it.
I was gonna send an email , explaining my situation and expecting to pay over£100. However, I don't see the point as I've just walked into a tip which was not my doing. I am treating this as a one off ( if somebody hasn't seen me and grassed me up). I will abide by the rules as always.
    Not happy .

Sorry AC but I can't make head nor tail of your post. If you are trying to dispose of things try freecycle rather than paying for things to be disposed of. Have you got a friend with a car to take things down to your local tip?

Thanks enthusiastic. The only person I know who drives is james.
I don't understand freecycle. I'd better look that up.

Just looked it up. I'm trying to get rid of polystyrene / curtains/ cardboard / glass etc
    Doubt if it would work

Hampshire is fortnightly waste too - count yourself lucky that it's only you AC. The bins are disgusting the summer with 2 weeks worth of waste (including dog bags!):(

AC It is common practice outside cities for general waste to be collected fortnightly, it means you do need to wrap food waste especially in summer.

Each council seems to have their own ideas about recyclable waste.

I have 2 bins and what I can put into recyclable is fairly limited, ie. basically paper, cardboard and most plastics.

My council don't collect glass so if you can't take glass to bottle banks in supermarket car parks then it has to go into general waste.

Most councils do charge to take larger items away, OK James could take yours to the tip as long as they let business vans in, mine doesn't.

So you are left with paying the council. A pain in the backside but very little other choice.

Welcome to life outside the city.
If you go down to the woods today you better not go alone.

Don't worry AC - if you nip out after dark and have a look from the street you will see how little can really be seen through the blinds!!
