Have you checked places like Dunelm for venetian blinds? I know you've got big windows, but £950 sounds fairly expensive, although I realise the price will include fitting (I presume?).
Shutters are a luxury rather than a need.0 -

Yeah, price includes fitting. Approx 2 hours. One of the windows requires 2 blinds, as one wouldn't have looked as good.
TBh, time is against me, so I decided to go for it . I liked the chap who visited. Very professional .0 -
AC, have you compared the prices of blinds in places such as Ikea, Dunelm. I am sure they would be a fraction of the cost and so you could still pay someone to put them up for you (maybe James?) Again you say you liked the chap but that shouldn't mean you pay over the odds for everything. These are salesmen who want your money so why wouldn't they be nice. Well done with cracking on with the painting. Nearly there now.:T0

Howdy
I'll be honest, and say that I have a feeling that if i hold back and look for somebody else, i could miss having the blinds fitted on time.
I would probably have to wait until sometime nect week for cosultation and then unsure of when blinds would be fitted.
Thanks for the encouragement tho0 -
I was just going back a few pages on this thread to catchup.
Strange thing: that strange insensitive post has disappeared!
Maybe the poster hadvtoo many sherries that evening ??
They're probably still reading, though said they'll contribute no more to the tgread.
Wonder how it disappeared ?0 -
But you don't need a consultation if you get blinds from somewhere like Ikea or Dunelm. We're not talking about custom blinds.0

Hi AC, I hope this doesn't sound like I'm being interfering or pushy, but it seems like DFW-ers have some great suggestions for ways to save money on some of your purchases but they are only able to make them after you've bought the item or paid a deposit.
Why don't you make a list here of everything else that you need (or want!) for the new flat and then some of the other DFW people could make suggestions before you start getting quotes etc? I'm sure it would be useful for other people who are moving house too0 -
Good idea Georgina
I'll be honest here , and say I've got most of the stuff I need now.
The reason imho why it looks like I'm spending too much. at times is because I want to get everything done before I move in to my new home. Most of the stuff I got was sale price . come to think of it, I was lucky to get James . He has jobs lined up but I got lucky .
The blinds are by insignia in branksome . Even when I paid a deposit this morning , it will take probably over 2 weeks to have fitted etc
I'm covered in paint at the moment . Will give a list as to what's remaining . All I can think of : wardrobesx2 large mirrors x3 hifi / tv unit , shelving units . I bought a couple of framed pictures from all posters . I need frames for a few pics was thinking of using them again
That's it for now0 -
I bought some unframed prints recently. I was considering ordering frames online but checked in Wilkos on the off chance (while I was stocking up on drain cleaner ... lol, I know, how glamorous!
). I found exactly what I was looking for there and very cheap too (I think £6 each). I'd also give them a chance for mirrors. The frames look very smart and stylish
I bought wardrobes and big tv unit was from IKEA - this is because we're still renting and I didn't want to spend a lot of money on expensive furniture when we don't own property. I'll save those purchases for when I own my own place and know what I'm working with, but I'm sure that some others here will be able to help out with good recommendations if you don't fancy IKEA.0 -
Okay... taking a breather .
