Leaving anything of value, let alone brand new stuff, in a communal area is a really bad idea AC!

Much easier to go back to Beales asap and change the delivery date even if it costs you a few quid to do so.

Seconded........plus if the place is empty then it's easier and quicker for the carpet fitters.

With my last lot I haggled them down a bit more by telling them exactly that. I pointed out the man hours they were saving ........plus not having to shift stuff around.

Better in my pocket than theirs. :rotfl:

That deal i got from carpetright ..50%off. Price held for 28 days .
The price obviously may increase slightly , if the measurements are out.
May depend on the hallway . Looks like im being mature and responsible :)

Surely it is best to wait until you have done all your decorating to get carpets laid and new furniture delivered. Easier to decorate without having to move stuff and you don't want paint all over new carpet. Can you not change dates for carpet laying and furniture delivery until later in May?

AC, don't be shy in trying to haggle on price of carpets. Carpetright's 'SALE' is always on - think MFI.:rotfl:

At one time I wouldn't dream of haggling in the U.K. (Did on holiday but never at home). I just felt too embarrassed.

Not now. I do it all the time. Gently, politely and with a smile.

AC the worst they can say is no. They might even say yes.

And yes, the big carpet sheds seem to have permanent sales.

I think £1700 for your flat is expensive.

We recently had a bedroom carpeted. It's 4x5m. The carpet is a thick pile with stain resistance and it cost £200 which included underlay, the edging strips and fitting.

We used a local independent carpet shop. I did look at Carpetright, but it worked out at about £450 for one of their cheaper carpets.

Why don't you check out a local carpet shop?

I also wonder if you got such good deals on the things you've bought in Beales, even though they were reduced. Department stores tend to be more expensive than places like Argos, AO.com and Curries.

You don't seem to be shopping around and sticking to a budget, but rather buying on impulse and opting for convenience.

De-lurking as well I had carpets on two bedrooms (one master one second bedroom) last September cheap ones yes but fitted for £312 by a local company in my high street. They said people go to Carpetright/Allied Carpets once then they realise the price difference.

I'm sure Beales will change the delivery date they've had a big order from you. Enjoy your new flat you're almost there now.

AC, why not visit a couple of carpet shops to view carpets in the flesh so to speak. You appear to have put a deposit down without even seeing any samples. As others have said, £1700 is high. You said the bedrooms had new carpets fitted only last year. Why not have cleaned and a couple of bright cheery rugs. You will get better value for your money if you shop around just a little. An hour or two on the internet doing a price comparison for items such as washing machines, freezers etc can save a lot of money. Have you got an exact final figure for your bathroom before agreeing to further work on the kitchen. I know you said James is very pleased with your laid back approach but be sure to keep your eye on the ball.

All good views duly noted :)
To be fair , the only issue is the carpet . I obviously did make a huge saving in beales . I have been constantly looking online and shops and I know the type of furniture I want and how much I want to pay .
I'm not throwing money around for the sake of it . Even LL hasn't told me off for some time :)
I am buying the best I can afford for one time only . The intention of having easy maintenance and good quality for at least 5 years .
In my defence , I have to act quick to make sure everything is in place .
James couldn't do the work constantly ( a day missed here and here). Not his fault ,but it prevented me from painting as he literally stuff everywhere
No big deal . It makes sense for him to do the kitchen worktop and sink.
We get on and I feel we have a lot of respect for each other .
Laid back and polite is tge way to go. I will tell you the final figure for bathroom and then kitchen .
It may look like I'm jumpy and panicking . To be fair to myself , I'm thinking on my feet . I may keep cupboards and doors in kitchen.
No rush, as the horrible flooring and manky walls will be revitalised .

Back to the carpets : sure I may have gone over budget . However, the quality is not the cheapest . Carpetright will take the old carpets away as well as do what they should . The people in there were manky . I have to live in there , so I might as well make the most of it . If the shutters are too expensive , then no I won't get them . When I bid for the flat , and for sometime after , I was unsure and putting barriers up.
When I see my job on the hallway , I light up .
If I didn't do what I'm doing now , something will always be nagging me and I would be forever looking online for ideas rather than enjoying myself
I will upload pics , and you will see a huge difference in a small flat .

The landlady couldn't get over how I got this place at the price I did
I'm finding out now , as I prepare myself for my new home and life .

I will still listen , but hope you now have a better picture of what I'm trying to do .
