Goodness AC - you have been busy! I hope you measured everything to make sure it would fit.
I was looking at smart phones yesterday as everyone keeps telling me I should get one, and there are certain things I could use that my old phone won't so. To be honest, after spending what seemed like a couple of weeks (ok - hours) on the internet looking at all the options (phones/tariffs) I pretty much gave up. I read somewhere once that the brain can only really cope with 6 choices at a time so I went and read my book ready for book group tomorrow. Although it is hard going, to be honest. I like most genres and will usually complete the book even if I'm not that keen but I may just "skim read" this one.0 -
Yes I remember Beales very well. Lovely shop. I had friends in Bournemouth and Canford Cliffs. A trip to see them always included a mooch round Beales.
I love traditional department stores. They have a sense of "theatre" about them.
I can remember getting my school uniform from one in our city. It was a very grand building, later became a building society and is now divided into swanky apartments.
My aunt took me. She had an account there (she was very grand) and the doorman used to practically salute her as he opened the door for her, always remembering her name and enquiring after her health, .......lord knows why she had the constituion of an ox.
Our trips always included a visit to the tea rooms. Starched linen cloths and proper linen napkins, flowers everywhere, serving staff in uniform, silver tongues for the sugar cubes, cake stands, lovely bone China.......there was even a little man playing the piano. He was rumoured to be a Russian emigre of noble descent but I think that might have been over egging the pudding. :rotfl:
There was an old fashioned lift with a full time operator. I remember She had a withered arm. Both she and the piano player seemed ancient.

Mrs P - we had best ask AC to investigate. I suspect they have self-service cafes nowSaveA positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effortMortgage Balance = £0

Maybe I'm just bone idle but I tend to avoid self service cafes these days when I can.
I like being waited on hand and foot. :rotfl:
I am soooo worth it. ......0 -
Howdy!
Yes there is a tea room of sorts up there. I will investigate . I think it's called the clipper . Mission accepted
I know I have to watch everything, but all I've got is the essentials .
Okay , the armchair may seem extravagant, but as I've saved a few hundred in th sale, there, it works out that the chair wasn't that much at all in the scheme of things . Plus I've now got this loyalty card ,and god knows how much I have on that
After the euphoria of yesterday , a rather tedious and annoying morning followed . Dreadful sleep . Forget that..
I pulled the blind open in the bedroom , and I managed to tangle the cord.
So , with the exception of watching frasier for an hour it took an eternity to fix the thing. Still , I did and I feel relieved to say the least.
The huge lovely trees opposite are being cut. Not sure by how much , but the tree surgeons are out in force. Feel sorry for the confused and unsettled birds. The landlady is a secretary to a tree preservation co, and her husband is on the board of directors I think . So they should know how far to cut etc .
I'll go to Poole tomorrow to get brita kettle and checkout beales.
I may have to go to Poole tomorrow regardless, as I've a feeling the bathroom will be done by Friday .

TBH dreaming , it really depends on what you want from a phone.
With myself for example , I couldn't do without my iPhone once I had it. Reasons for me were quite obvious : playing my music ( through headphones of course ) ..a must if commuting. Texts .
Emails, browsing the internet while in coffee shops or cafes.
Apps for buses, weather, news. If I got really bored in the office, I would play on a music app. Loads more stuff, but I won't go on .
If you are happy doing without the above as you have been, then just stick with what you have.
What I will say , is that the phone changed the way we listen to music now . For years , when I got vinyl I couldn't waitbtomget home to play it. Now if I want to hear something , I just push a button and after a commute I'm not bothered if I listen to music or not.
The other thing: I really miss the Mexican hat dance ringtone on my old Nokia brick.
Btw : if you are not an Apple user, then always get the android equivalents so you stick to the same format as your windows imho. So,instead of ipad, get a tablet etc.0 -
I'm indoors waiting for a fan to be delivered. The tracking system for dx does not function at the moment . In the meantime , I've just booked an appointment online with carpetright. Awaiting a phone call.
Not sure if they charge extra for the free consultation but I need to get things done.
The builder even said that the carpet in the hallway was 'worn looking '.
The living room is the same as hallway.
The bedrooms are a brown chocolate colour which dont go with the white walls. Plus, if I wanted to keep them , I'd have to get them cleaned .
Thankfully the rooms are not big, and there's no need for underlay in the bedrooms as the carpet was purchased last year.
I have roughly 3 weeks to get sorted give or take , so hopefully it'll all gel.0 -

FWIW Dreaming, I've just ordered a new smartphone to replace my Samsung S3 which is getting old and slow by todays standards.
Like you I spent hours looking with my usage requirements being fairly simple - phone calls, messages, long battery life. google maps, internet, gmail, 5" screen, quick charge, an app store, fast processor and at least 3gb of RAM and 16gb of memory with possible memory card storage on top, and finally a good camera. Now that sounds a long list but it isn't in todays high tech world!
I no longer do contract phones and have been on sim only with 3 for two+ years, so I'm buying the handset outright.
I settled on either the unlocked Moto G5 from Amazon with 3gb RAM and 16gb memory at £175-£180, or the Moto G5 Plus which can be bought unlocked only from Carphone Warehouse or direct from Motorola at £250, which has 3gb RAM and 32gb memory. Both are dual sim and support additional memory card up to 128gb.
Settled on the G5 Plus which I ordered from CW today purely on the basis of the extra memory and the better camera.
So my advise would be go for either one of those as budget allows and get a sim only deal with whichever provider you prefer on a rolling 30 day contract.
If you don't want to pay for the handset outright CW supply both on a variety of networks, however their G5 has only 2gb of RAM (the Amazon model has 3gb), but is slightly cheaper than the Amazon exclusive version.

Saw two bungalows. TBH Neither made my heart sing but one of them kicks most of the boxes and could be made to fit my exacting standards. :rotfl:
I will make an offer.
