So, I get up . I contacted big yellow storage. Good thing is, i only have to give 1 weeks notice to move my belongings out .
Phoned tv licence . Had a nice conversation with the computer.
Then i phoned utility warehouse. I have got a refund of over £30 .
Initially £25 , but it has been a saga.
45 mins later, and after being on my knees a couple of times it looks like the penny has dropped. Only 1 reading on the new meter, and it takes an eternity for utility warehouse to take the new reading and bill accordingly.
The subcontractors they use ..lowri beck are worse than crap.
I forgot to turn off the tumble dryer yesterday .
My brains are well and truly frazzled ..what's left of them.
Gotta go to my bank and pay landlady final months rent.0 -
Morning AC, just out of interest - you mentioned a few posts back about rot in the joists (floor I assume) in the bathroom and James repairing it - did he call you first and show you the rot damage?
Also do you know what has actually been done to repair the affected area and treat it to prevent further spread. Don't want to see you paying a lot for a new bathroom if the floor isn't up to the job!0 -

Thanks for that harz
He didn't , so it may be an idea to call him .
Thanks for that0 -
Just left email with James regarding the joists . Fingers crossed it's not too bad . Been to nationwide to pay landlady .
One thing I was thinking of : last year I was set on moving banks elsewhere after not getting help when I needed it .
However, if I'm on a dmp then that had to be expected . My fault for getting into that state .
Nationwide in Poole are really friendly and professional.
While other banks are closing branches , nationwide are keeping theirs open apparently . They're a building society at the end of the day .
I have an appointment booked in mid may to get the best help from them Acct wise . No harm done .
So a good day for getting things done .0 -
James replaced rotting joists by the tap area of the bath.
Everything sounds really good so far .
Tiles arrived..vanity unit due possibly today also .
Vibes are good0 -
If the rotting floorboards are by tap area of bath this is likely to be leaking joints over long period of time so your plumber would be right to replace them. My daughter and son in law had a new bathroom installed a few years ago. Looked great initially then it turned out he had not checked the flooring properly so the toilet was laid on uneven floor so pan screws continually working loose. My husband said it was a bodge job. It seems your plumber is being more thorough but as others have said make sure you are getting value for money. You should have a price quoted and that should be what you pay unless you have added extras or unexpected costs (like dodgy floor) which he would not have known about until he took the old suite out.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Debt free Wannabe, Budgeting and Banking and Savings and Investment boards. Agreed Enthusiastic, what concerned me was AC was talking joists not floorboards and that could be serious if not repaired properly and depending on cause/type of rot if not treated to prevent further problems on any new wood.
I would have expected contact from James and a discussion on site before anything was actually done in the way of repair to a joist.0 -

Agreed.... James should have called for a site meeting.0 -
Thanks folks
I don't know if I mentioned that James replaced 2 joists .
He seems on the ball so far . The job looks good so far .
So I went to beales in Poole shopping centre as they have a sale on.
I did well with a computer desk , a coffee table , a nest of 3 tables
Plus pillows/ cushions etc . All that for less than £650 .
Just remembered , I have to throw out old coffee table from old flat unless I did so already . If I went to John Lewis , we're talking £3k.
Getting it delivered in 2 nd week of may .
Was looking at their recliners . Argos do those , but you can't really see them as such. Got a loyalty card from beales ( not a credit card or I would have refused it). They have a sale of cordless vacuums so I may go back tomorrow . They do washing machines/ fridge freezers etc so as the sale is on it may be worth having a look . I like the landladys Bosch . Easy to use etc.0 -
I've just had live chat with Vodafone . I have to contact them on 4 May and there should be something to tempt me . I was polite and professsional so they should hopefully remember this when offering me a deal.
Will keep you posted0
