Wow! Thanks again for your concerns for me . I must clarify things again , but please don't think I'm being stroppy : I wanted to clear debt with payplan a couple of months ago. I have the full amount to pay if I must .
They will contact me 1 st week in June . It may take longer but I'm gonna negotiate . It obviously looks like I'm buying stuff for the sake of it . I did mention that I'm constantly looking for the best deals . Beales gave me the best deals . Buying all I need at once looks worse than buying piece. Y piece . Take the bathroom: the eastern euro guy wanted 50% up front .He was looking to do both that and kitchen for £8000
On the rated people website you have to put a price you want to spend up to . James , on the other hand never charged for disposal of my old bathroom . So I have my eye on the ball at all times . I may come across like forest gump, but I'm far from it .
The loss I make at carpetright , I will have clawed back by beales and James imho .
One poster yesterday had the cheek to suggest I don't look at other polled diaries or look at less well off. Very patronising and untrue.
Apart from the health and slight loneliness I'm having fun , and spending within my means so far .
Now , you can continue ..:)

Yes AC, I was going to link that "other" poster to your original thread cos I don't reckon they've read it. Didn't bother in the end as the post itself didn't inspire confidence that he/she would read the old thread anyway.

Like many of us I'm still a little concerned about your future living expenses versus your current spending, and heartily disapprove of wasting savings from builder and Beales on Carpet right! A quick trip ( personal not email) to your local Carpet store is seriously in order.

Hey AC, I'm pleased you've kept the full amount back (just on case) :)
It's great that you're getting on so well and I'm very pleased you seem to be settling into like in Poole....

Healthwise, as soon as you're up to it, gym and then that may well open social doors

Dating? any thoughts for down the line ;)

AC, I have been following both threads, more of a lurker myself. (and cheering you on silently from the ether)
When I was at the end of my plan with Payplan, I contacted all the companies myself. You don't need to wait for payplan to do it. In fact I wouldn't, as they won't necessarily agree to the best figures for you.
I have had a long hard slog myself, to get out of debt, and it took a long while to change my mindset, but I did.
I am also getting a bit nervous on your behalf, and am also concerned that you may not have changed yours. Obviously we are just invisible people on the internet, but there has been a lot of support and concern expressed for you. You have come such a long way, I would hate if you ended up in a mess because of overspending now.

But surely the money saved at Beales would be better in your bank rather than Carpetrights?

Seriously, it would be cheaper to use a local independent, probably a lot cheaper, going by the replies you've had about this. I don't understand why you don't want to save money.

AC. First of all I thought that the poster who wrote such a nasty piece was bang out of order. You did well not to rise to the bait. TBH I was seething on your behalf. I felt such an attack was unwarranted and grossly unfair.

So you made gains on your London property.......So what, it's not illegal or immoral. It's hardly up there with drug dealing or human traffcking is it.

I have made money on every single property I have owned - apart from the Spanish one where despite plummeting in value because of the crash, favourable exchange rates meant I just about broke even. A piece of pure luck for which I was very grateful.

Do my property gains make me a wicked person or a shrewd operator. ;)

Now about the spending.......yes we serial renovators could have done the job for less than you. I could probably have done it for at least 50 per cent less but I have years of experience, have a degree in design, and have learned from past mistakes.

Yes, without a doubt, you have overspent - despite your Beales deals. I have winced more than once.;)

AC I saw on another thread how much you spent on your fancy recliner. I will spare your blushes on here but I know for a fact that I can buy a leather recliner with a full massage facility for a third of what you paid

I cant help but feel concerned when I see how you have rushed and overspent. I worry that you are risking your future financial health.

Now I will say one thing which will probably upset you and indeed many readers. And it's about negotiating a reduction on your debts.

I know it makes sense and I know that Martin advocates it but if I'm honest it really doesn't sit easy with me. I was brought up to payback what you owe - in full. I do see it as a matter of honour.

I know it's the banks that take the hit when they write off debt but the problem is they don't do they. They pass their losses on to other customers in the form of higher charges and poor interest rates, so even the "innocent" end up paying more and losing out.

As you know I racked up £30k of debt but I paid back every single penny. I figured I'd spent it, I owed it and it was only right and proper I paid it all back.

I'm sorry if that sounds like I'm preaching but it's just the way I feel.

Maybe I'm just a proud old fashioned gal who is out of touch :D

Just spent another £212 at the dentist, that's £370 this month.

Lets hope we're done for now.

Hey AC. Don't want you to feel ganged up on but I echo the other concerns expressed in here over the past couple of days. It's great how proactive you are - I'm sometimes crippled by indecision - but you don't always need to go with the first thing/quote you see. You just requested a call back from carpet right and next thing you've paid a deposit on a £1700 refit without even seeing the carpet you are getting! Surely the price depends on the one you chose? Pretty sure you have a cooling off period - would it hurt to ring and cancel saying you need to consider things a bit more?

It's great that you like James but you haven't yet seen the finished job and you're giving him another! Sign it off first and check you like it. Please. You're a good guy and extremely trusting, I'd hate people to take advantage. Are you keeping a record of how much you've spent and what you have left? We have renovations budget and have gone badly over on the kitchen spend. Has meant a couple of things we wanted to do have had to be put on the back burner. And our budget for garden furniture has been reduced so much we've bought second hand from a Facebook sellers group. There are good deals to be had. Good luck :)

The simple fact is whenever you are fixing up your home it always costs more and takes longer than you anticipate.

And..........The more you rush the more it costs.

Also. Like the others have said - unless you have a bottomless purse then if you overspend in one area you then have to try and claw back somewhere.

We went seriously over budget on DS2s house. It surveyed well enough but it wasn't until we started the work that we uncovered all sorts of nasties. DS was very upset, he even had to move out at one point and live with his brother, it was so bad. But we reworked the budget, concentrated on what's was most important (hence the cheap carpets) and put a couple of things on hold as a temporary measure.

I too dont want to gang up on you but please try not to be so impulsive. Never accept the first quote and I didn't know you had done this.......but really .......shelling out a deposit for something you hadn't even seen was a tad unwise don't you think.

Thanks for the advice again everyone. Thanks again for not agreeing with the patronising post from yesterday . I pressed the thanks button..then changed my mind. Still, they are not gonna post on this thread again ..

Just made a really bad excuse to carpetright . I got my deposit refunded.
James has got his friend in mind , who will carpetbthe flat. I have no idea on price , but it will be cheaper, and you can all breathe a sigh of relief on my behalf :)
James has kicked a@@rse. Bathroom completed ! We spent ages talking .
I've struck lucky in timing , and a deceint job/ bloke.
He's gonna do worktop/ sink in kitchen maybe something else. He's starting on Monday . I may get email this evening for bathroom cost.
    He loves the flat.
I did rush with carpetright initially . Only because I didn't think I'd have enough time to order something from 1 company / then look forvsomeone to fit it . Time is beginning,to go against me . Carpetright would've been an expensive convenience . Let's hope James's friend can deliver the goods .

Having read LL's comment I have scrolled back on your purchases and noticed on another thread you bought a Dyson v6 animal. i have one of those but I have animals :rotfl::rotfl:

Again it you're getting nice new plush carpets and they aren't covered in dog hairs you could go for a much much cheaper brand/model. If you've not had it delivered look on other websites and ask yourself if you really need it.

PS - they are a !!!!!! to clean, especially the filters as I've discovered
