Thank you for the kind words LL ,)
I've almost turned my life around . Not yet there . Next year is when I want to be in employment ( hopefully part time ), and a lot lighter and rid of the side effects etc . Meeting people also is high on the list .

As I say , you and many others have contributed a great deal to this , which I shall never forget . Keep nagging when you need to ;)

Nobody gets a feee ride . We just have to make the best of the cards we are dealt with . If we keep trying , we can hopefully make things easier the older we get
    Something like that ;)
  • Came back from the gym , and another update from payplan :

    PRA group : Balance £6,513.79 offered £ 2,606.00
    Accepted £3,908.00 . Was £ 5, 862.41

    Barclays : balance £952.95 offered £382.00 ..accepted £382.00

So , just waiting for wescot to see if they can accept a lower offer.

    £5,674.36 . Offered £2, 270.00 . Accepted £4, 824.00

    Great news .

That is such good news AC. Less than £10,500 if Westcott accept your offer. Get this debt cleared once and for all and then budget, budget and budget - just in case you did not get the message the first time.;)

Yes , I really have to get a grip on things once settlements are done.
Having to move because of being in debt . One of the biggest wake up calls to anyone . Feel free to remind me tho ;)

    AC. That's Great news......
  • Thanks LL;)

TBH , looking at various threads about settlements I was prepared or
shall I say expected to settle for around £18-19,000 I had a feeling I'd not have to pay everything . ;)
I know what I have to do now :rotfl:

Now you are moved and more or less paid out for everything and once the payplan debt is gone then you have an opportunity to really get to grips with your finance.

As we often say on the DFW board the secret to fiscal responsibility is know where your money is going and budget. Even though you will no longer be in debt you have no income at the moment and you need to get to a level where your health is ok before you can start looking around for part time jobs. Maybe for the next few months keep a spending diary so you can see how much those odd coffee stop costs add up? You have freely admitted you enjoy these to get out and see people so I don't think anyone would begrudge you this but knowing how much you need to budget for this is key to seeing how long you can go before you absolutely have to get some sort of income. Same goes for the odd amazon purchase which is way too easy when you don't have to leave the comfort of your new recliner with ipad.

Also look to the future by sorting out a savings account to keep a buffer untouched for unexpected expenses and maybe move over a fixed amount every month to keep you going until you get some income. Make sure you sort out your pensions too by giving them your new address and getting statements of your entitlements and how and when you can draw on them. You are slightly younger than me I think (I am 57) but I retire at the end of this year and will be drawing on one pension, I have another one which pays out in February 2020 and a private SIPP which I am going to leave untouched for now. State pension does not kick in until 2026 sadly.

Let us hope in a few weeks time you will be able to say you are debt free and looking forward to staying that way.

AC - really pleased for you and as others have said you can now sit down and work out your budget.
Debt free and Keeping on Track
  • Great advice enthusiastic . Thanks for that .
It's funny really , I was going to update my status a few times by saying how many times I have actually not bothered going to the coffee shops . A combination of starting off at the gym , the humid weather and waiting for various deliveries to the flat haven't done me any harm .;)

My pension is hideously bad . Working in very low paid jobs for years have not done me any favours . Still, I can't cry over spilt milk as I enjoyed most of my low paid jobs and things could be a lot worse.

A strange day today ..in a good way . Payplan has been mentioned .
This morning, I felt much better at the gym , which now includes my walking to and from .( parkstone to branksome , which is a start )
It's the first time that I've been 3 times n a week . I aim to make that the least I go . If I can keep this up , then hopefully I will get a part time job and I will be more settled .

The other part of today , will see me doing something after spending quite a while procrastinating . Tidying up my hifi/ tv setup. ;)
    A long story ;)
