  • I feel really inspired by the posts in this thread, but also really frightened about how much food is going to cost when I have a husband and children!

I just buy for me at the moment, I eat a low carb, high protein diet with lots of fresh vegetables. As I've recently become a mature student (doing an access course so no loan :() I've had to cut down my food shopping spending, I was spending about £40+ a week, I'm spending about £25ish at the moment. If they've got any I'll buy reduced meat, seperate it up into portions and freeze it as I find that helps to keep my costs down. I tried shopping at the fruit and veg market but found that things weren't saying fresh all week. I live really close to asda so I do most of my shoppin there (other than bits like soya nuts, soya beans, TVP and wheatgerm), but am moving house on sunday and the nearest supermarket will be Lidl, or tesco is a bus ride away. I try not to shop in tesco because their prices can be much more expensive on some of their fresh stuff. *awaits petrol bomb from hardcore tesco fans*

So anyway, I will be keeping an eye out for the november thread and joining you guys.
*wonders when they will make dressing gowns acceptable day wear?*

  • Just about to update my signature but spent £23.68 in Tesco last night for this weeks shopping, so that has pushed me over budget this month. Not going to beat myself up about it because I've bought a few things for our little holiday next month. The kids haven't been away this year and we're having 5 days away so I'm going to make them fabulous for us all. :D

Will look forward to Novembers challenge now. WELL DONE to all those that are doing so well and showing us the way to do it. :T

Well so far I'm still way under budget, I'm hoping that all I will need to buy for the rest of the month is milk and some fruit for my lunch boxes.

The pennies I used to spend on shopping have been going into a savings account since I started this challenge have just come in very handy as my car broke so Ive now used that (didn't need the credit card) to pay for the repairs so I'm well chuffed.:T

Well done to everyone for cutting their spends :)

Well done everybody, only 66 days to Christmas :j

Have been back at work this week after being off with a virus so am back to buying my lunches... Not done too bad this week, I hope I am still going to be on target. Just updated my signature and thinking about doing another Tesco online shop for a few bits I've run low on...

Making a chorizo and chickpea casserole today so will make loads so I can freeze some, still have some frozen bolognese and meatballs and chicken breasts so the freezer still seems pretty full. :)
  • Got my veg box delievery on Thusday and recived:
    14 potatoes (k) - 1.585kg
    3 big onions - 450g
    14 carrots (k) - about 2kg
    4 huge parsnips - about 400g
brightlight chard (brightly chard) (k) - about 400g
    cauliflower (k) - 1.25 kg
    3 big tomatoes - 385g
    4 huge regal prince apples (k) - 825g
    5 bananas - 850g
    6 satsumas - 625g
bunch white grapes - about 425g
    medium pumpkin - over 2kg

Replacements for the celery and green pepper:
    2 bunches broccoli (k) - 500g
    2 sweetcorn cobs (k) - 700g
    green curly kale - 450g

I did weigh everything but do not have the piece of paper with it all on it with me. Will change/update them probably next week now. I think I got alot for my money. Unfortunatly my laptop doesn't want me to bluetooth the photo of it all otherwise you could see it all. My boyfriend thinks I have alot as he had to carry it up the stairs to the kitchen, hehe. I know it all weighs over 12kg so I would say it is alot really.
At Sainsburys without BFs discount card it would have come to £24.49 thats with the parsnips and pumpkin not organic and not being able to find the chard or curly kale (£6.99 saving)!! With BFs discount it would have been £20.83 (£3.33 saving) :j. BF did buy me a cucumber and some kiwis that were organic as he knows I like salads with cucumber and kiwis for a snack aswell as some coffee mocha ripple swedish glace dairy free ice cream  (it's not organic but have it rarely as it's rather exspencive and not great for my health).
    Updated weights!

Hiya not doing to bad, just updating signature and think i will manage it, will probably need to get some milk, bread and fruit for the last few days. I've ordered next months big tesco so that is coming on the 30th pm and next month starts on the 30th when oh gets paid. He went shopping for me yesterday came back with a load of things that were not on the list (sippy cups for the kids! It's not like we don't have a million in the cupboard) but it still only came to 24.22 and i don't think i'll spend more than a tenner on a top up so should be ok just.

Hi all, I haven't checked in all month but I have been keeping track - almost the end of my month (get paid Mon/Tues) and I've come in just under budget at £59 (out of £60) including all toiletries and cleaning products, so rather chuffed! :D Probably go for the same again next month - an exciting development for me is that I now have a full sized freezer so I should be able to do more bulk buying, batch cooking, and hopefully have more variety in my diet instead of having to use things up quickly.

Hope you've all had a good month too!

    Well....this week's total now stands at £77.65!!!!

Had to go to local (expensive) shops today for bread, milk & cheese, prior to Tesco delivery this evening!! Tesco delivery was great value though - was £79+ but with BOGOFS, promotions & a £10 off code - came in at £66.33:j

However, it seems I actually forgot to order my bread - so will need to get these tomorrow:mad: - I'll put those in next week's total though!!

Have £31.57 left til the end of my challenge (31st October)...can't see me meeting my target (AGAIN!!!! :rotfl: )
