1st November is a steep challenge for the CH. I usually end up "giving in" sometime in October...and maybe even September. Still very warm here in London.

Quite balmy down here today, this evening is gorgeous out, could do with a few more like that ;)

We just about managed 1st Nov last year, a few times before we popped a few logs on the fire, so will try again for the same (she says hopefully :) )

The evenings are cooler but still have the window open overnight in the bedroom and no central heating on here in East Anglia. Will be trying to defer turning it on for as long as possible of course, but the problem I have is that work is kept so very warm (24°C or so) that everywhere feels cold in autumn and winter!

I guess they minimise the proportion of fresh air replacement on the air conditioning so the temperature builds (quite pleasant on a Monday at 0630 as it is on tick-over at the weekend but too warm later). But everyone wears light weight clothing as it is so warm, and even though I'm in a suit for work everyday often need to leave the jacket off....

I think I've noted before that I do agree to OH closing the bedroom window at night once its regularly below freezing or less than -3°C outside, but otherwise it is nice fresh air and "fresh" when I get up (and close the window as heating starts so wife has a warmer room once she gets up much later). We may be incurring more heating cost overall but you can't shut a house up for months on end with no fresh air in my opinion.

Yup first festival. Eldest son and his friends all get their GCSE results on the Thursday (I think) and then they are off to Reading for the weekend. Fingers crossed for good results and dry weather:D I will probably wait until as late as possible (to see what the weather is like) before I buy sleeping bag, tent, etc.

    Any hints and tips?

Don't forget Wellies! :D I've never done Reading but no doubt, like Glasto, he'll be tempted to take loads of stuff. A little cooker is great for making tea and pot noodles but not so good when its raining (if you've a diddy tent like me) and we gave up last year and bought all food and drink which was very expensive but easier to carry ;) and less hassle all round. I could talk for hours bout Glasto so I'll be off now.......

P.S. The heating goes on in our house when we start seeing our breath and try to 'blow' O's :D

No, let air circulate you can get mould if not careful. Ours is an old house so where they didn't cement plaster the walls needs to breathe, we have stone floors downstairs so I sit with the door open when possible during the day and put a coal fire on if it is chilly at night which helps circulate air round.

I'm going to do a store cupboard challenge and see what meals I can russle up "for free".

Looking forward to getting sub £100K however - what a great day that's going to be:D

I've been batch cooking yesterday and today and should be getting 12 servings from 1kg of minced beef using the Economy gastronomy recipes. Apart from mince and veg they only call for storecupboard basics which I had including some leftover frozen red wine.

Recipe 1 is Spag Bol, 2 is Cottage pie and 3 is Chilli con carne. I think it could be stretched further with more onions and veg without losing anything in taste.

I guess you know how hard you can push the envelope to acheive sub 100k. One time I was unemployed and had a dog to feed as well I had egg and home made chips for my xmas dinner. In all honesty I was quite happy with it.

I've just discovered OH had taken out a larger loan than I thought
