Cheap airport lounge access

My advice is not to bother, and certainly don’t pay for it! I have had top tier status with several airlines and with a few notable exceptions, the lounges are quite basic, crowded and sometimes rather grubby. I have sometimes chosen a Costa Coffee and a couple of ales at Wetherspoon (don’t judge me!) rather than go to the lounge. I have been upgraded quite a lot (single passenger, peak times, “elite” status) and have never, ever asked for it, and would feel embarrassed to do that. Maybe it works for some, but a guy in front of me at check in went on and on trying to charm the lady (frankly, it was pathetic) and she said business class was full and there were no upgrades. When I got there she said I would probably be upgraded at the gate, and I was. These days I think nothing works other than flyer status and a range of things a computer looks at based on travelling history and the types of fare you purchase.1

hello all
considering getting an annual lounge pass.
I'm self employed, do consultancy work, live in oxford but do 2 trips a month back and forth between Birmingham/ heathrow airport and Aberdeen.
I'd use this primary for food and drink and get some work done.
in addition, would use it for family holidays, for wife and 2 small.children, whom I realise will have tmto pay a nominal amount for access.
Seems to be several choices, but wanted to hear some recommendations.
Also going to Birmingham airport this Thursday early morning for a familiar holiday, so any ability to access for the would be great.
thank you in advance.

I wouldn't think there is much of a lounge facility at Aberdeen ?Certain bank accounts etc. offer airport lounge access - but at price.

Priority Pass has a lounge at ABZ, BHX and LHR amongst many others. Standard prices are £220 or so annual fee with 10 free visits. After that it’s £24 a visit. Or £400 or so for unlimited free visits. All guests are £24 each per visit.Personally I think that’s a lot of money really and having been in a PP lounge they aren’t that great though it was the one at T5 at LHR which is poor. For a holiday that’s £72 for you and wife and two children. But if you do a lot of travelling on your own then it probably would be ok. Two trips a month is 50+ flights a year, so £8 per visit which is ok and on that basis I might be tempted. That’s assuming you don’t have airline status? With those number of flights you’d probably build up status quite quickly and with BA that would give you Silver status which is arguably much better. Depends who you fly with.
