I suspect the resale value of these cars has just plummeted to roughly nothing.

There is anecdotal evidence some dealers won't accept them in PX any more.

Thanks those of you who have been helping to make this public.

I have a 2014 Focus 1.0 Ecoboost 125bhp. I love it, have had no problems with it and was completely unaware of this issue until today.

After seeing the press coverage and reading stories about engines failing without warning, I checked my car's registration on the government website (https://www.check-mot.service.gov.uk) and it has an outstanding safety recall! I don't know if I would have eventually been notified or not, but at least I can now hopefully pre-empt this happening to me.

The recall will be for the clutch, nothing to do with the overheating.

Check your coolant level regularly. I would also be checking the pipe which seems to be the root cause.

Ah, in that case I'll have a few questions for Ford about the overheating issue when I book the car in. Are they not currently providing a fix for it?

The best fix is to get rid unfortunately as some people have had 3 engines.

If you trust Ford to stand behind its promise and you don't mind running your Ecoboom to the 10 year point or so, this isn't such a bad result. It's awful if you want to see it on as I can't see there being a second hand market now.

If your car is not one of the ones with the 44,000 (out of 600,000) engines that has the issue then no fix is required. And it seems likely that it's not one of those if it's not listed as being affected.

Wow 3000 view of this post in less than 1 day!

I've been reading the campaign group page for almost 2 years... so I can shed some light...

To clear up the recent posts above, the 1.0 recall from approx 2 mths ago, is a safety recall for clutch slipping test, possible fire, possible clutch replacement, and ECU software update. There are changes to the engine map, so mpg, turbo programming are reported to be different. But, Ford have not published what the software update does apart from say it stops the clutch slipping problem.

The 1.6 safety recall issued in Jan 2018 is for extensive engine changes to lower the risk of engine fire. Part of those parts changes is the addition of a coolant level sensor.

The engine failures in 1.0 and 1.6 litre ecoboosts ARE NOT solely or even mainly due to the degas hose recall from 2015. Any low coolant event can cause engine damage to the point of needing a new engine. The 1.0 litres do not have coolant level sensors, which is what they despirately need.

Please read the facebook group for information

Consider joining the legal action instead of accepting Ford's poor offer today at

    Peace.
