  • This thread raises a very good point.

I was very chuffed when i won the holiday to Ibiza a few weeks back, I told three people at work the day before i went to Ibiza and they was so excited for me! After returning to work everyone knew!

I enter competitions as its a lovely suprise to think you might have a winning email or something turn up in the mail. I keep all the letters, emails and slips you get from the comp people in a nice little folder to show everyone.

You have to be in it to win it!
  • I love hearing about other mse'rs winning great prizes, rather than feel jealous, it makes me realise that I have just as much chance if I enter the competitions.
I haven't won a huge amount of prizes yet............, but probably as many as I'd won in my whole life before I started comping on here, as I never entered so many, though I did win 2 flights to Barbados when I was pregnant with my daughter, at the works xmas do, took my daughter with us at 20 weeks ( that was fun )also, only flights, so added quite a bit to the old credit card, but what a fantastic experience.
Good luck to all on here, most of us have money problems, & if we can get a little pick me up through the post - good for us ( especially if its a rabbit:rotfl: )
Comping again - wins so far : 2 V festival tix, 2 NFL tix, 6 bottles of wine, personalised hand soap, Aussie miracle conditioner

Married my best friend 15/4/16 :)

totally agree, it's great to hear of other peoples wins, it does give you faith during a quiet patch,

I also agree that comp prises are a great pick me up. when your trying to clear debts, student ones in my case you can not afford many luxuries, the prizes are amazing,

I won a posh watch today, before now the most expensive watch I have ever owned was a £5 from the market and as for the designer handbag, my last bag before that was a hand me down from my mum.

I also like to tell people I won them as I don't want people to think I am wasting what little money I have, or for people who know me better to think I am splashing out of posh stuff when I have debts to clear.

I love comping and am a comping addict I tell all my friends and family when I win and they are always pleased for me but you will always get some jealous people I just ignore that some people are just that way.I do also get people saying win me one of those and if I win it and don't want it myself then they are welcome to have it although I rarely enter comps either my family or myself don't want.I don't see why we shouldn't be proud of our wins.:D :T :T :T :j :j :D

I stumbled across the comps board by accident and have been here ever since, I told my mum about it and she is also quietly floating about.

I havent really discussed it in any detail with my friends (probably cos I havent won anything big yet) But the family have a good giggle at my mum and me. I really enjoy comping, this board has a fab atmosphere.

If I won a car, holiday or anything remotely expensive though you probably wouldnt shut me up about it. Someones gotta win it and it might as well be me :)
    Total 2019: £3972 - Best win this year £3000
    2018 total £4062/2017 total £2260/ 2016 total £2025/ 2015 total £3809.
  • I mainly tell close friends and family about my wins (had several small wins so far since starting in June 07). I love being a comper and the people on this forum are great. Also, it really gives you a buzz when you win something even if you will just give it away. Yesterday, I had a really bad day (people on the pregnancy forum know why) but I got a huge lift from receiving an email telling me I had won a book.

I dont get jealous (well, not too much  ) when I hear about the big wins from other MSE compers - you share in their delight and that is lovely and quite rewarding in itself.

At least you know that you are doing the right thing by being "in it to win it" as you can see how much others have won too.

    Enough said....back to comping :D

  • I've detected a bit of jealousy when I've won weekends away and holidays. Once I won 2 weekends away within a month of each other and my parents said something like "Hmmph I wish I could go away 2 months in a row like that" in a sarcastic voice. I said that the comps are all there for anyone to enter for free and they said "I cant be bothered to sit there every day typing my address in over and over". So I said "well thats why you don't win anything".

Also my boyfriend won a weekend away and offered it to his parents as it was their wedding anniversary. They turned it down saying they couldnt be bothered to travel (it was only 10 miles away or so). So we went and as soon as we walked out the door they apparantly said "they go on enough weekends away don't they?".

  • I love to read about everyones wins on here, it spurs me on! I haven't won anything yet because I've only just started comping, but I can't wait for my first win, however small!

I've only told my hubby for the moment, and he's like  because he doesn't think I'll win anything. He thinks I'm wasting my time "because loads of people enter those things". I can't wait to prove him wrong though.

I won a kitchen thirty years ago worth all of £3000.00 and have been entering competitions on /off since then, have had my fair share of prizes no cars or really big holidays but have won short breaks and had lunch with celebs. Days out that we've really enjoyed, also had long spells of winning nothing, so I take a break then along comes a new find like this web site and off I go again. i always tell people its my hobby and I have spent money on stamps, postcards, phone calls and the internet but I enjoy it and the odd prize keeps me happy. If people and friends are negative I tell them to get entering and keep happy.

That is exactly what I meant, you want people to be pleased for you, but in my circle of friends/family, I am the only one who has publicly (at least) admitted that I am skint and it makes me very sad when people who have tiny mortgages or who live at home start asking me for things, I dont want to be greedy, but if it wasnt for winning a holiday I couldnt afford to go away this year and I really didnt want to give my holiday away to someone just because they asked for it. My OH keeps telling me not to feel guilty about it, but then he is the one I chose to take.
