    Another point...

Putting the diaries in their own sub-board may encourage other people to start a diary, who might not already (for fear of dropping off the first pages too quickly or forcing new posters to do the same).

Rather than saying "You're not new anymore... go away", I think it would be more like a graduation!

That's another point. You don't have to put just diaries in it. You can put challenges, like: first diary to reach 2,000 posts (although I-A would probably win hands down!;) )
  • Sorry everyone, someone who's name begins with MSE (clue - he's already posted on this thread) did something (I have no idea what) and merged the threads.

Guess who gets to tidy up?:rotfl:

I've un-merged (if there's such a word) it into this thread - could you re-start the poll on it or, if that doesn't work, just start a new thread?

Hmmm. I made a comment about that, but edited it out. Should have left it in.:rotfl:

The joys of technology - a 'Little Knowledge can, indeed, be a Dangerous Thing' :rotfl: :rotfl:

Still if he can't even spell DFW correctly (look at title of thread) - what hope is there?

I am watching and reading this thread with interest and I can sometimes be swayed by a good argument that goes against the way I think ~ however, I really think that I must be missing the point on this because I am yet to even understand why there should be another board.

The arguments for (and mine against) that I can see are:
    • New posts go unanswered ~ simply no true, this doesn't happen
    • Front page is taken over by diaries ~ again, not correct, we have yet to see more than 5!!
    • Newbies dont feel welcome ~ rubbish!! And quite frankly if they didn't because of a few diaries then I think DFW would be in trouble.
    • The diaries are cliquey ~ nope, but they will be if segregated.
    • Questions ar repeated ~ this is inevitable and will happen regardless
We are not a group of school kids that need seperating - we are what we are because we are together so I would welcome someone to explain to me

  • RIGHT. I have just gone back 28 PAGES and found 20 posts with 0 replies. 4 of these were information posts (ie thought this might help someone) posts, 2 were spam, 1 was a duplicate and 1 was a personal challenge.
My page shows 20 posts so out of 560 POSTS 12 were unanswered questions by newbies..

Remind me where the idea that newbie;'s posts go unreplied come from exactly????????????

That's only because she mentions her "bum" in the thread title.;) :rotfl:
