At the risk of making myself look selfish now... I'm debt free and in reality all that keeps me coming back here is the people who have been there with me on my journey and who have become friends. While I'm here I post to newbies and offer them what help I can and it works. If all of my friends were shunted off into a sub board, I honestly doubt I would hover around on the DFW main board.

To be honest I think the opinions in here are a little biased (sorry!) - like those that have diaries don't want them moving. Something definately does need to happen because in amongst all the diaries its getting harder to spot the very new people everyone thinks it puts off by moving the diaries!

I can see where you're coming from, but as someone who doesn't have a diary, loves coming on and seeing how everyone is doing on a day-to-day basis. I also think that when new people come onto the boards, that they read these diaries first, to see what kind of people are on this board and what other situations people are in. I know that in moving them, they could go to the sub-board and look, but would they do that? probably not as often.

I also dont think its getting harder to notice new posts - there aren't as many diaries as people make out and on the front page at the moment, there's only about 4 posts that are diaries. Out of the number of threads you can have on the front page, that's not too many.

Just my two pence worth. x

  • OK. How about a poll ?. Then people can voice their opinion and not leave a message if they feel they do not want to.

I would rather they stayed where they are, but if anywhere a sub board would do.

I just worry about newbie's still being missed.

    hi

As I said last night - I am against the idea of a sub board - I did have a diary but have let it kind of slip now lol! I regularly pop back to the board to catch up on other diaries though. If it weren't for them, I doubt I would visit just to see what newbies needed help (and yes, I know that is very selfish).

The amount of stickies are unnecessary, as have been said, and even if the diaries went, people's post would still be pushed off the front page. Perhaps if all those who want a sub board spent a few minutes searching through and replying to the newbies/no answers/few answers posts, there would be no problem.

Ok, I have an idea in my head, but not sure how to translate from brain to PC:rotfl:

How about turning the concept on it's head, put a sticky or a locked topic, or an annoucement on the main forum, something along the lines of "first time visitor? look here for advice" then have a first post with a link to a newbie sub board, which could have FAQ stickies covering topics which are asked time and time again, or explaining the principles behind the DFW forum, the diaries, how friendly and helpful the forum is, read the diaries and challenges for inspiration, and how welcome anyone is to post.

Ask the newbies to have a read through the FAQ's, and to post a question on the newbie sub board if they can't find the answer on FAQ's. I'm sure that newbies can feel awkward to post if they feel it's a stupid question or whatever, but maybe if there was a specific place to 'dip their toe in' they might feel more comfortable to post.

I feel certain that all the regular posters on here who have benefited from advice when they joined would be keen to pass on advice and therefore keep an eye on newbie posts.

Anyway, enough rambling it's prob a !!!! idea, but there's my penny(it would have been twopennerth but i'm dfw!!)

:rotfl: See I don't post very often, and now you all know why!!:rotfl:
