Sub board for me too *Triker says in a singsong voice ala Mary Poppins in no way resembling nagging*:D Tra laaaahhhh.

I honestly don't think it'll detract from the expertise and support, I reckon it'll enhance it which can only be a good thing.

I was just going to post exactly what Toto's last paragraph said (although I agree with her whole post despite having just said I don't really mind :)).

Good points, Toto, but I do still vote for a sub-board. I think we'd certainly point the newbies in the direction of the diaries, and if threads start up in the wrong place, then, like now, they get moved, I suppose.

I also vote for tidying the stickies. We're such an active lot, thats what its about!

    Sub board please.

  • Is it possible that if we do have a subboard that if it ruins the feel of DFW we can have it moved back? Really don't want it to end up being an us and them job like with the bankruptcy board. :(

I think nagging martin is a bad idea (it makes him grumpy :) ) I also think splitting the board is a bad idea. The diaries are what brings lots of people to this board, and as Z said last night we're likely to end up with newbies posting questions on the diary board because fewer of the seasoned DFWs are here.

Those who are in for the long haul often have the experience to help the newbies, in turn they need to have something which keeps them on track, their diary. So, maybe there are a few diary threads on page 1, is clicking page 2 such a problem? It's a trade off but a valuable one I think.

I know I gained loads of help from the diaries when I first came here, will the newbies miss out on that because they don't know where to look? I don't know, I didn't like the bankruptcy board to be honest, it did create us and them and it did cause problems. I think a diaries sub board will create its own problems too.

Where do people post their challenge threads which are kind of group diaries? Do they go on the diary board too? How about the odd social thread, do they go there too?

Well if we think that a post would benefit from a certain diary then we can post the link like we do with SS's SOA thread or things like the Pigsback thread.

I think bankrupcy is a bit like that because it is a bit "specialised" unless you have been through it you don't know much about it.

Can't see that happening with DFW - I think it can only help new people which is just what we want spread the word!
  • Maybe we should just tidy up a few of the stickys so there is more room on the board?

We dont need the debt champion one any longer and maybe the signature and SOA stickys could be combined?

Or maybe have a sub board for challenges only?

    Mortgage Free - done

  • Hmm. I think we do need to make sure that newbies don't disappear straight away, but there's a huge amount of help available in the diaries and challenges.
I think a sub board for Diaries only, as long as everyone agrees to float between the boards and subboards so that questions are answered asap and that posters can link to the diary threads if there's something there that may help?

  • I think probably a sub board is better for the diaries, cuz newbie posts can sometimes get lost amongst all of them.... But please please please Martin, make it easy for the newbies to find! As I-A said, we don't want it to be a 'them and us' situation. Its daunting enough posting as a newbie, so we still want them to feel welcome.... its a good job we're all so nice! :D

I'll be honest, it won't make too much of a difference to me because when I log on, I read my subscribed threads, then head straight to the main board....

And as for nagging Martin!?! We don't nag!!! Anyone would think this place is full of determined women!! (not taking away from the lovely men too!)
