    While we're nagging......

Does anyone know why my post count has dropped by around 200 posts overnight?
Is it better to aim for the stars and hit a tree or aim for a tree and land in its branches

My natural inclination is to worry that everybody with a diary, or who loves the diaries will hate me and I should run away and not come back.

I don't see why Jacks - My first thoughts, when this thread was first started, were to leave things as they were, but I have to admit that my opinion has altered somewhat over the last 24 hours, and whilst that does not mean that I am fully in favour of a second sub-forum, purely for diaries, I can, now, appreciate some of the merits.
The 'Bankruptcy' Sub-Forum works pretty well, alongside the DFW Forum, and many of us post regularily in both - I don't see this as 'cross-posting' since we are all in the same 'main forum' anyway.
It is worth remebering that the 'Bankruptcy' Sub-Forum was born, less than a year ago' out of necessity - bankruptcy has always been associated with the DFW forum and, when I joined, there were many 'bankruptcy' threads on the DFW board, not necessarily always attracting the more 'specialist' advice that the topic required, and also unnecessarily exposing those for whom Bankruptcy was the only option to deal with their debts to vitriolic attacks by the less tolerant of posters.
A few of us, under the excellent leadership of Mike St. Helens, started the 'Bankruptcy Club and Supporters Club' thread where people could post specifically for advice on Bankruptcy. We could never have imagined how succesful the thread would become, but it got so large that Martin created the 'Bankruptcy and Living with it' sub forum at the beginning of the year. This sub-forum has, not only continued to go from strength to strength, but it has produced excellent posters, such as fermi (to name but one), whose expertise is not only limited to bankruptcy related topics but has proved invaluable throughout the DFW Board as a whole.
I am now erring to the opinion that a similar style of sub-forum for diarists, would produce similar results - those 'diary threads' would be just as open to everyone as the 'bankruptcy' threads are, whilst grouping a similar 'theme' together would also mean more support between diaries, making them, potential 'vaults of information' and of more interest to other DFW's.

Maybe it's just as well that the 'poll' disappeared as I had voted 'in the heat of the moment' and would now be regretting my initial choice.

If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Mine has dropped too - I think there has been some 'moderation'.

Thanks Rayday, Hairy Hand of Dartmoor and Rog for responding to me personally :A when I'm being an over emotional female woman type person. :o

I always feel that when people feel passionately about something, things can get emotional and personal, and I feel (rightly or wrongly) that people who disagree vehemently might not like each other quite so much any more. :( (which makes me want to run away - like a four year old when Mummy and Daddy are arguing. :o )

Rog - I think the Bankruptcy sub-board is a great example for how a sub-board can go from strength to strength whilst not taking anything away from the "main" board. In fact posters are funnelled from one to the other quite naturally, and a wealth of experience informs them both.

I spent a lot of time reading the Bankruptcy Supporters Club stuff when we had our LB moment, and the info we got from there was instrumental in our decision making.

This whole site has been an absolute lifesaver for me, and it makes me sad that anybody (even a very few) might not get the chance to turn their lives around the way we have.

Cheers everyone for being nice to me - I know I'm being a big wuss. :o

    Love Jacks xxx :D

  • i vote for sub forum - i think experienced regulars are going to find it easy enough to move between the two whereas a page of mainly long threads can be daunting to newbies

i'd also vote for a sub forum for challenges and saving clubs + keep chat threads on the diaries forum

get as many long threads as possible off the main forum - keep it for straight forward advice

I think I'd draw the line at this a_h. One of the MOST IMPORTANT aspects of this forum is that we are able to 'socialise'. It not only 'creates a community feeling' but makes the site more inviting to 'newbies'.
Often, simply because of their personal circumstances, DFW posters are not at ease in the allocated 'socialising' forums, such as the 'Moneysaving Arms'.
Equally, because most of us are genuinely brassic, we can't all afford the external social life that many people take for granted, so the 'virtual' socialising not only helps us, but keeps enough of us on the forum to be available to give help and advice to 'newbies' at times when many other forums are virtually uninhabited.
In answer to those who say that these 'social' threads are 'cliquey', yes it's certainly true that many posters attend these threads on a very regular basis, but, to my knowledge no-one, other than the odd 'troll' has ever been made to feel unwelcome, or excluded.

I agree completely Rog. I am happy to say I have met some lovely people on here and love coming in to have a chat.

It's one of the things that made me feel at ease when I first joined.
    Current debt - £16,300 :(
    Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek:
:ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A

i see your point but would it be very different socialising in a sub forum? it would still be the dfws together - the community feeling would still be there just another click and the main forum would be less cluttered. i know its not likely to happen - it's just my opinion based on the times i've seen the first page almost filled with the longer active threads and those with 0 replies dropping off the front page.

i think most internet forums can appear cliquey when you first start visiting. it's just the same as when you start a new job or move home and you're getting to know new neighbours and colleagues
