Serious Nagging From DWFs

Just caught up with this thread and thought I'd try and try to get a bit of feel for what everyone was saying.
So.....I've done a quick count up of unique user comments (ie if someone made 6 comments, it counts as 1) and the results are
MSE'ers who said
I want a sub board but gave no reason why: 19
I want a sub board and this is my reasoning: 10
Keep it as it is but gave no reason: 2
Keep it as it is and this is my reasoning: 19
I don't mind: 5
I've changed my mind: 2
So, the results show in favour of a sub board, but the 'keep it as it is' have more qualitive than quantitive points.
And, caveat time - I'm still half asleep so it is a bit of a rough outcome, but pretty accurate I think. Make of it what you will/want I guess!
Right , off to walk the dog.......much less stressful than this!!"Stay Wonky":D

I would disagree with that. When it was part of DFW, the relationships were very good, with only a few disagreements about it (notably about bankrupts posting on the Debt Free thread). Since it went into it's own sub-group there have been a number of us and them flamewars. But you couldn't bring it back. Too many burning bridges.[/quote]
you and i must rember it different as i rember it as soon as some posted should i go bankrupct you would get the reply no you spent it you should pay for it it the easy way out ect ect not on every one but most would end up like thati cant slow down i wont be waiting for you i cant stop now because im dancing0 -
Snaggles's breakdown was interesting. I've a couple of questions though.
1) Was the split three of each (for/against)?
2) Did you choose the first three of each off this discussion thread?
3) What do your answers prove? They could be said to 'prove' either arguement.
i.e. Diarists post more answers for newbies so keep them together, or
Non-diarists get fed up with so many diaries around (my opinion that there are a lot) together possibly with computer speeds that they only have time to look at the first page.
Please, if you quote me don't take me out of context.
MM
1) Yes
2) I'm not answering that sorry - that would be naming names and wouldn't be fair - of course, you are welcome to check a few for yourself, the information is there in the public domain
3) I think I actually stated that it didn't prove anything, just that is was an interesting trend, bearing in mind they were the first (and only) 6 people that I'd looked at.
As for your final comment, I'm not even sure why you are saying that. I haven't at any point been nasty to anyone, only expressed an opinion and given some possible evidence to back it up (that IS still okay isn't it?), and I HAVEN'T quoted anyone out of context, so I'm afraid you have baffled me slightly..."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
Right.
I've been dropping in here a little bit this morning... and seen everyone's replies and while you have been replying to this thread I have spotted a couple of NEWBIE'S with NO replies about to drop off the front page!!!! Isn't this what we are arguing about??!!!
I'm not getting shirty I just thought I would point it out... and yes I have replied on them.Current debt - £16,300Debt at worst 17/03/2011 - £18,067.62:eek::eek::ANot going anywhere else, ever again :A0 -
This is really silly battling over where diaries go, like I said if you like them you will find them.
People on the boards today are looking for help and people are spending more time on here - shame really.
The forum is big enough for a spot for everything and locations are a click away, tidying is an essential part of forum management and diaries are a victim of there own success if there were not so many the question would not have come up, so now they need a space of there own - so the flow of the DFW board can continue - its simple forum management! I pity poor Martin getting to the bottom of it! I am now reminded why I let my forum go lol!
Good luck Martin!0 -
I wasn't referring to you with the quote Snaggles. Sorry if this wasn't clear.
The only reason I wanted to know if it was the first three people, it was simply to ensure that it was a small but FAIR bit of market reasearch. I.e. you didn't just choose individuals selectively. I was actually trying to back up your research not criticize it.

Lucy 1982 and rayday2 I agree with you both.
This thread had intrigued me so much that it is open opn my desktop permanently and I just refresh it occasionally. I'm not even on the DFW board at all (if you see what I mean).
I need to spend more time working and less time following this or as you say go on to the actual board and make more productive posts (better use of my time).

Oh okay, I took it to heart and got a bit snappy, sorry!
Must try and get more sleep... :rotfl:
All I can really say to point 2 is: such a small section of people can't be said to accurately reflect anything no matter how randomly they were selected, but it was a fair selection process rather than hand picked people (although that makes my 'research' sound rather grander than it actually was...lol)."I wasn't wrong, I just wasn't right enough.":smileyhea97800072589250 -
 Hiya lovelies,
I'm a little wary of getting back onto this, as it's become unexpectedly heated, but I tinkered with the view options and according to that there's 37 pages of posts that didn't get a response.
How many of those were newbies i don't know.(I didn't recognise many names) but I was surprised it was so many.
Most of those zero response posters are probably not involved in this discussion. (Some of them may not have posted on here ever again.I know one of my friends didn't.)
That's kind of my take on it, the people who we may have failed don't have a voice in this discussion because they didn't get a reply to their first post and they're not here any more.
We're vulnerable when we first rock up at DFW and being already depressed or stressed out, or just feeling pessimistic or lacking in confidence because of our debt problems - if we then feel we've been ignored or rejected we might just go away again.
I didn't get a response to my first DFW post, but I continued to lurk off and on, and about 9 months later I joined up again, posted on MS-OS and got some replies, and I've been here ever since. :j
My first DFW post as Jacks xxx had slipped off the first page by the time I'd finished posting it - and I didn't know that that might happen if the board was busy, and I didn't know that I could look it up in my profile, and I didn't know that you could subscribe to threads.
So I posted it again!
I wasn't feeling so vulnerable this time cos we'd paid off a massive chunk of debt already and I felt more confident and in control, and able to persevere. I had been here quite a while and I had a better idea of how the boards worked.
(But I'm not sure that's the case for most newbies.)
I want all new posters to be well looked after, welcomed and helped. I try and do my bit even though I don't know much about anything, and I know everybody else does too.
I take on board the opinion that moving the diaries would mean less "eye" traffic, but surely most of us would still make the effort to respond to newbies anyway?
There'd still be challenge threads, daily threads, Party threads, and threads that started as a problem or enquiry and turned into a social event along the way to keep us coming to the main DFW board.
And people would still get involved in the Diaries the same as they do now - they're very compelling.
Anyway, I'm sorry this is so long, but I just wanted to let everybody know where I'm coming from on this, because I'm trying to be a more confident person and stand up for my opinions.
(My natural inclination is to worry that everybody with a diary, or who loves the diaries will hate me and I should run away and not come back.)
I'm going to hit submit now before I think better of it.
Love Jacks xxxNot everything that can be counted counts, and not everything that counts can be counted. Einstein0 -
I think Jacks your post was very wise and illustrates how busy the board is, so even freeing up 5 or 6 lines is worth it!0
