  • Wow! Board looks much better without having to scroll past the stickies. I like it like this - I think if the diaries are on asub board I might end up just visiting the sub board. it's the diaries that keep me coming back.
  • Just noticed your reply to my stupid question Keren - Thanks

I think the DFW board should have a daily chat thread, like the OS board does. That would be a good way to get new people to feel a part of the community. Plus, I like hearing everyone's news because I'm a bit nosey and right now everyone is scattered everywhere and I can't keep up.

So I vote for more diaries and daily banter :D

Community, hmmmmmm only if you want the diaries to stay where they are eh?????

I'm getting a bit fed up with the negativeness about it all, not what DFW is supposed to be about.:(

    2) Please be clear that I have never said that they are not popular (as clearly they are going by the number of postings they have), I have only said people do not go on DFW JUST for them they go on for other things as well.

The fundemental question is: "How popular are they in comparison to answering newbie questions? (for lack of a better term)"

Those people who come on to read the diaries, and who answer newbies as a side-line (myself and Toto have come out public as being at least 2 of these people) will be on a different board. There will be more - but it is an unknown number. Can you replace those people?

The diaries will lose those people who just come on to answer newbie questions - but that is (IMHO) rather less important.

you and i must rember it different as i rember it as soon as some posted should i go bankrupct you would get the reply no you spent it you should pay for it it the easy way out ect ect not on every one but most would end up like that

You would remember that as being a matter of significance as it related directly to you. There have been at least 2 (that I know of) flame-wars (not isolated nasty postings) since the split. There were no flame-wars before the split - the only thing that came close was the "SandraLovesCats Incident", and that wasn't anything to do with bankruptcy.

This is really silly battling over where diaries go, like I said if you like them you will find them.

That's exactly my point. You'll go straight to Diaries. Do not pass Go. Do not collect 200 newbie questions.

    Hiya lovelies,
I'm a little wary of getting back onto this, as it's become unexpectedly heated, but I tinkered with the view options and according to that there's 37 pages of posts that didn't get a response. :(

But how many of those were spam, how many were duplicate posts (the beginning of the year the board was having a major brainfart in terms of duplicate posts - 2 out of every 5 were duplicated), how many were news items - "Interest rates went up today"?

You'd have to go through and classify them if you want to pull them out as statistics.
